Research Notes:
Tradition says that Lady Jane Stewart of the House of Stewart married John Reed, and their daughter, Sarah, married John Shannon [Ref: Boss BYERS p193]

Settled in Peters Township of what was to become Washington Co, PA, sometime between 1771 (when she was taxed in Sadsbury Twp, Lancaster Co) and 1777 (when her son, Samuel Shannon, owned land in the area of what was to become Washington County). Sarah and most of her family had moved to what is now Washington County. Later, Sarah lived in Finley Township, Washington Co, in the home of Thomas and Margaret (nee Shannon) Byers, her son-in-law and daughter, where she died. When she moved to Washington Co, with her were her four younger sons and several daughters. Her oldest son, Thomas, was living in Amherst (now Nelson) county, VA near his uncles Samuel Shannon, Thomas Shannon, and William Crowe. Her second son, John, died in Peters Township in 1787; the others went to Shelby County, Kentucky. Two daughters also went to Kentucky; two stayed in Washington Co. [Ref: Craig AmAncestrySupp3 p84]

In a court action in September 1792 (Washington County Court of Common Pleas #40) Sarah Shannon, widow of John Shannon of Lancaster County sued George Shannon, John Rankin, and Hannah Rankin (late Shannon) who were executors of John Shannon of Washington County, second son of John Shannon of Lancaster County for money due her [Ref: Bell SHANNON]

Signed her Last Will and Testament on Oct 1 1808, and it was proved and entered for probate in Washington County on May 18 1810. An abstract:
I, Sarah Shannon, Gentlewoman, of Finley Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania, --- I allow the annual income from the tract of land willed to me in the State of Kentucky by my son, William Shannon, --- one-half of the income to be divided equally among all my children now living, and the remaining part to Thomas Byers, my son-in-law, with whom I now live. Thomas Byers to be the executor of my estate. Witnesses James Byers, Thomas Byers.
The word, Gentlewoman, as used at that period in time, and earlier, indicates that the person named had adequate unearned income and didn't have to work for a living.
The deceased son, William Shannon, mentioned by Sarah in her LW&T had died in 1794 in Shelby County, Kentucky. He was one of the largest landowners in Kentucky, owning something over 300,000 acres. His is the first Will ever recorded in Shelby County, Kentucky. There is no doubt but this William Shannon is the most famous of our tribe of Shannon, primarily because of the splended services he rendered during the American Revolutionary War.
