Maria Elizabeth Todd, 96, died Sunday at the home of her son, C. M. Todd, near Dover. She was born near Senacaville, Ohio, January 14, 1842. She finished her education in the Steubenville Female Seminary, Steubenville, Ohio.
She married John Smith Todd September 27, 1866, and lived three years at West Alexander, Penn. Then lived on a farm near Senacaville, Ohio, for six years. In the spring of 1876, they came to Kansas and settled on a farm between Dover and Auburn. In 1900 they moved to Topeka and lived on Garfield Street, until the death of John S. Todd. Since then she has made her home with her children, having lived with her daughter, Mrs. William McArthur for about twelve years, and the last one and one-half years with her eldest son, C. M. Todd, on the old homestead between Dover and Auburn. Mrs. Todd joined the Presbyterian Church when a young girl, and was a loyal and devoted member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church for thirty-eight years.
She is survived by three sons, C. M. Todd, Dover, Kan., Rev. J. M. Todd, San Antonio, Texas, and Dr. Paul J. Todd, Canton, China. Two daughters, Mrs. William McArthur, Topeka, and Mrs. Minnie DeLay, Portland, Ore. There fifteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, also three Chinese grandchildren adopted by Dr. Paul J. Todd, and one Chinese great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at the Wall-Diffenderfer Mortuary. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Mrs. Todd will lie in state at the Wall-Diffenderfer Mortuary from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday. [Ref: DoverKS UnkNews 1938]
