Research Notes:
death was sudden and heroic. he was running the engine of a passenger train on the Denver and Rio Grande R.R. and seeing a huge rock on the track when rounding a curve, and when advised to jump to save himself, stuck to his engine. succeeded in stopping the train without the loss of life of any one on board, but lost his own in doing so.
