West Alexander, Dec. 6 - William N. Todd, in his 90th year, one of the brothers who organized the Todd band which gained national fame years ago, died here yesterday morning at 11 o'clock at the home of his sister, Mrs. Emma Moore, of this place, with whom he had made his home in recent years.
The Todd band, which gained its name from the musical brothers who were active in forming it, was so famous in its day that it was one of the attractions at the centennial exposition held in Philadelphia in 1876 and the world's fair at Chicago in 1893.
Two years ago, when he was 88 years old, Mr. Todd took the initiative in organizing a band here among the men of the community and continued as its director until his health began to fail entirely.
Although he had lost one arm while employed by the Pennsylvania railroad, Mr. Todd continued to play a cornet with a marked degree of skill.
Mr. Todd was in the employ of the Pennsylvania railroad at Crestline, Ohio, for a period of 40 years. Upon his retirement, he returned to his old home here to spend his final years.
A son, Dr. Herbert Todd, of Galion, Ohio, and a daughter, Miss Bessie Todd, of Crestline, Ohio, survive. Besides his sister, Mrs. Moore, he leaves one brother, Dr. Frank L. Todd, of Pittsburgh.
Funeral services will be held in the Presbyterian church here on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in charge of Rev. Mr. McMunn, of Pittsburgh, assisted by Rev. W. M. Lorimer, of this place. Interment will be in the West Alexander cemetery. [Ref: WashingtonPA Observer 12/7/1926]
