Mr and Mrs William J Brown announce the marriage of their daughter Bessie
Florence to Mr William Todd Moore on Thursady, the eighteenth of August
nineteen hundred and twenty one Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania [Ref: Wedding
announcement BROWN-MOORE]
"William Todd Moore Died in Car from Heart Stroke"
The community was shock to learn of the death of a former West Alexander
boy, William Todd Moore, who had for the past sixteen years been a clerk in
the office of the Jones and Laughlin Steel Corporation in Pittsburgh, Thursday
evening, Feb 26, 1931, in his 35th year. [NOTE: date crossed out and
handwritten is "Friday evening, Feb. 27, 1931"]
He had completed his duties as clerk in the order department in the office
of the Jones & Laughlin Steel Corporation for the day and had gone to his
car, parked on private space of the company and overlooked by their watchman.
Todd had light heart attacks two evenings previous, which he attributed to
indigestion. Thursday evening he was to have met his mother, Mrs. Emma Moore,
at the bus station, and accompany her to his home, 6942 Bennett Street, for a
visit. Not being met Mrs Moore called the home and his wife called the
office, from which it was stated that Todd had left for his home. When he did
not return the office was again called and this time the watchman was
instructed to look for Todd's car. The watchman found him sitting in the car
lifeless from heart attack. He had his evening paper, gloves on, car not
started, but with key in hand ready to insert in its place. The office was
notified, but the word of death conveyed by the watchman was unbelievable,
though true. Todd was removed to a hospital and his uncle, Dr. Frank Todd,
summoned. The coronial investigation was held at the institution. Death had
been experienced with no apparent pain.
The remains were conveyed to West Alexander and the funeral service held
in the Presbyterian church Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. G. Karl
Monroe, pastor, assisted by his predecessor, Rev. Glenn M. Crawford, of
Tarentum; Rev. Wm. McMunn, of Oakdale, and Rev. H. P. White, of this place.
There was a large assembly of community friends and acquaintances and very
many beautiful floral tributes, from his neighbors, associates and friends.
The pallbearers were six department heads from his office. Burial was in
the family lot in West Alexander cemetery.
William Todd Moore was born in West Alexander, April 27, 1896, son of
Elijah T. and Emma Todd Moore. He attended the West Alexander school, was
graduated from Washington High School and for a time was a student at
State College. About 1915 he went to work in the order department of Jones &
Laughlin, Pittsburgh, where he proved capable and his genial manner won to him
the warm friendship of his associates. He had been a member of the West
Alexander Presbyterian Sunday School and congregation, but more recently
his membership has been with the Homewood Presbyterian church, Pittsburgh.
August 18th 1921 he was united in marriage with Miss Bessie Brown, who is
bereft with two little daughters, Marilyn and Joyce; he also leaves his
mother, one sister, Dorothy, wife of Charles Edgar, West Alexander, and a
brother, Frank Moore, also with Jones & Laughlin, Pittsburgh.
