The Last Will and Testament survives in the old records of Lancaster County,
PA. Following is a transcript of portions of the will. Recorded on pages
213-214 of Will Book "J" of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Photocopy of

I give and bequeath to John SHINNON, my son in law, ye sum of fourty
shillings. Likewise I give to Samuel SHINNON ye sum of twenty shillings.
Likewise I give and bequeath to my son David REID ye sum of twenty shillings.
The rest of my estate both personal and real ... to be equally divided
between my dearly beloved wife, Jean REID, and my sons David, George, and
Joseph and each of them to have one equal share, only I allow my son James
REID to be put to a traid when he is fitt to chuse for himself and when he is
free of his aprentiship to get ye sum of five pounds. And also my daughter
Ann I allow her to get a horse and saddle to the value of fourteen pounds and
two sufficient sutts of appearal. This that my son James and daughter Ann
gets must be of ye whole estate before any division be made and ye rest
divided as before.
I give an allow to my son Alexander REID ye sum of one shilling. I give to
my son J--- REID ye sum of one shilling. I give to John McCAFREY my son in
law ye sum of one shilling. I give to my daughter Agnes REID ye sum of one
shilling. I give to my daughter Mary REID ye sum of one shilling.
And lastly I appoint my trusty and well beloved sons David REID and George
REID to be executors of this my last will and testament ... .
Witnesed by John Anderson, Charalls McCallester, and Robt. Alison
On 26 Oct 1752, Charles McCallister and Robert Allison appeared before
Deputy Register Thos. Cookson, and "made oath that they were present and saw
and heard John REID the testator sign seal publish and declare the same to be
his Last Will and Testament ..." [Ref: Craig REID p2]

April ye 13th 1752. I John Reid of ye township of Bart, county of Lancaster &
Pa Being very sick and weak in body, but yet of sound and disposing mind and
memory, do make, ordain, constitute, and appoint this, and none other, to be
my last will and testament. And first, I order and allow all my just debts
and funeral expences to be paid out of my estate.
I give and bequeath to John Shannon, my son-in-law, ye sum of fourty

Probated Oct 26, 1752
This has been typed from a hand copy on file at the Genealogical Society of
Pennsylvania. While published abstracts of the will use the spelling Reed,
this copy clearly and consistently uses Reid. There was a large Reed family
in Lancaster Co at the same time giving rise to confusion in the court

Lancaster Co PA Wills J-213, dated 13 Apr 1752, proved 26 Oct 1752:
In the name of God, amen. April ye 13th 1752. I John Reid of he township
