WILL OF THOMAS SHANNON OF SHELBY COUNTY KENTUCKY April the seventh one thousand seven hundred and ninety seven. In the name of God Amen, I Thomas Shannon of Shelby County being in good health and sound and perfect memory thanks be to God for the same but knowing the uncertainty of this earthly life do make and declare this my last will and testament in the manner and form following (viz) Revoking and making void all will or wills by me formerly made first I recommend my soul to Almighty God in whome by the merrits of Jesus Christ I trust and believe to be saved and my body to be buried in such descent and Christian like manner as my Executors hereafter named shall think fit and as for my temporal estate and what God hath been pleased to bestow upon me I give and bequeaths as follows. Impri???? after my just debts were paid first I will and bequeath to Mary Shannon my beloved wife the third part of my estate during her life and the whole of my personal estate during her life to be disposed of among our children as she shall think fit. Second I will and bequeaths to my son James Shannon 150 acres of land the same being more or less being a forth of the land I now live on the line is to begin in the middle of Richard Gregory's line betwixth him and me and to run a straight course to the corner of the fence on Gregory's run and along the fence to the corner at Clear Creek thence a straight line to the middle of the line betwixt Samuel Shannon and me the East side of the land I will it to him and his heirs forever. Thirdly I will and bequethe to son Samuel Shannon 150 acres the same being more or less being the remainder of the land I now live on the West side I will it to him & his heirs forever. The 300 acres that father in law (see will of Alexander Reid of Amherst Co., Virginia) willed to me my will is that it be equally divided betwixt my daughters Jane Reid & Agness Wallice & Mary Shannon 100 acres each my will is that the rest of my land may be sold & the money arising therefrom be equally divided amongst the hole of my children. I constitute and appoint my brother Samuel Shannon sole executor of this my last will & testament.

Shelby Co November County Court 1800 This last will and testament of Thomas Shannon, decd. was produced in court and proved by oath of Mathew Harmon and Jacob Canoy two of the subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered recorded and thereupon Saml. Shannon the only executor named in the said will refused to take upon himself the burthen of the execution of the same whereupon Mary Shannon widow and James Shannon who having made oath thereto as the law requires certificate of Administration with the will annexed is granted them in due form and thereupon they entered into acknowledged bond with Samuel Shannon & Alexander Shannon their securitors in the penalty of one thousand pounds condition as the law directs.
