Letter to Bessie Moore, dated Sunday, October 11, 1981:
Dear Bess,
I apologize for delaying so long before answering your letter. Writing is
difficult for me, for, in order to see what I am writing, I have to lean over
the table and that makes my back ache. I do as little writing as possible.
After spending 4 1/2 weeks in the hospital and one at John Mark's, Cynthis
brought me here. I am slowing improving, taking a crash program of vitamins
and wearing braces for my back and right knee. I hope that I can go home
eventually but will have to keep my cane and my walker for help in getting
around.
It is wonderful that you are so well and can rely on your Pacemaker. Bill
Sevett(?) has had one for years - is on his 5th or 6th now. My general health
is excellent, my trouble deteriorating bones.
You asked about the Moores their arrival in the U.S. and from where they
came. I can't give you exact information. For Dad didn't talk much of them
although he did mention County Fermana (I am not certain of the spelling) and
County Down. I do know that Grandfather Moore was 8 years old when they left
Ireland. The date of his birth on his tombstone should give an accurate date
of their arrival.
Grandfather Moore was William, no second name as far as I know; Grandmother
was Margaret Elizabeth Reed.
I wish I had talked to Dad more about his father's family, but one usually
isn't interested in such things until one is growing older.
I shall be sorry not to meet Joyce and her husband, but I know I won't be
home for some time, indeed, at one timeI felt convinced that I would never be
above to be in W.A. [West Alexander] again. But I hope that sometime I can be
back home and be able to talke care of myself.
Joyce has a find family and I know that you are very proud of all of them.
I admire anyone who can teach children with learning disabilities. I am
afraid that I would not be able to do that.
Cynthia is teaching in a school in Cleveland that is predominately black
because the children have been bussed from the East Side and many white people
in the are have moved or are sending their children to private schools. I
never, in my wildest dreams, could imaging the problems the black children
create for their teachers. Most of them, in C's school are black also.
It was good to hear from you. I am sorry that I can't give you more
information. Keep well.
Love, Margaret [Ref: Margaret Moore 10/11/1981]

Letter to Joyce Abney, dated 6/14/1982
Dear Joyce,
Finally i am answering your Christmas note. I am sorry to have delayed
so long but writing is very difficult for me and I must admit that it has
made me nervous, not to mention my aching bones.
However if you are in this are and have a tape recorder I could tell
you what I can of our forebearers. I wish I knew more about them.
Thank you for sending the pictures of you all though I couldn't see
them well enough to recognize you if you were to come to the door.
Cynthia broght me home Easter week end and I have been here alone.
Adda comes to W.A. occasionally. I am lucky to have good neighbors and
fine help with laundry, etc.
Come to see me when you can.
Love, Margaret [Ref: Margaret Moore 6/14/1982]
