Civil war soldier, Co. F, 52nd Ohio Vol. Inf., Aug 15 1862. Private; 2nd Lieutenant Feb 1863, 1st Lieut. July 1863, Adjutant of Regiment, Captain Dec. 1864; served under Generals Buell, Rosenorans, Sheridan, Thomas McCook, and Sherman; in twenty two battles; Chattanooga to Atlanta, GA. May 5, to Sep 3 1864; with Sherman from "Atlanta to the Sea" and through with Sherman from Savannah GA, South Carolina, North Carolina, Goldsburg, NC, and the final surrender of Lee and the Grand Review at Washington D.C. Twice a member of the First Branch of the Wheeling City Council, elected City Collector 1887, and served two years; from 1894 has been Literary Editor and Proof Reader on the Wheeling Daily and Sunday Register, and is yet.
