Newspaper clipping "Church Filled at Funeral of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Todd":
The double funeral of Joseph S. and Elizabeth B. McConaughey Todd was held Saturday afternoon at three o'clock, in West Alexander Presbyterian church. The large auditorium was filled with attendants at the service, probably five hundred persons being in the concourse of relatives and friends. The service was very impressive and was in charge of the pastor, Rev. Glenn M. Crawford. He was assisted by Rev. Wm. M. Lorimer and Rev. Jacob Ruble, both of this place, and Rev. W. R. McMunn, of Pittsburgh, nephew of Mr. Todd. The double service was a rare one here. The home was left with no one for the pastor to pay a consoling visit with after the service.
The pall bearers for Mr. Todd were Messrs. Ed Devine, F. W. Moore, T. E. Egan, James Reed, M. E. Sample and a nephew, Frank Moore; for Mrs. Todd, Rev. W. R. McMunn, of Pittsburgh; John T. Ramsey, of Butler, Pa.; Mr. McConaughey, all relatives; J. A. Allum, R. D. McCleery and H. H. Lamb. The burial took place in a double grave in West Alexander cemetery.
The death of Mrs. Todd occurred at 11 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, 1926, less than 19 hours after her husband, death of both being caused by lobar pneumonia. Mrs. Todd was in her 63rd year.
Mrs. Todd was born in Claysville, August 22, 1859, daughter of Joseph and Jane Ramsey McConaughey. When she was a small girl the family moved to West Alexander where Mr. McCanaughey went into business with B. L. Grave, who was the father of Mrs. H. H. Lamb, of West Alexander. The father died many years ago. After his death the mother moved, with her two children, Elizabeth and Frank, to Washington. The mother died while a resident there. About 35 years ago the son Frank died. His widow now lives at Steubenville, O. The death of Mrs. Todd removes the last of the family.
Mrs. Todd years ago taught school for a time in the West Alexander section, but after going to Washington was employed in the law offices of Aiken & Duncan. She was probably among the first to be employed by local attorneys as a stenographer. Later she was employed in the office of the Murdoch law firm, and was there until in December, 1904.
She was married to Joseph Todd about 21 years ago, and had resided since her marriage in West Alexander. She was active in the Presbyterian church at West Alexander and had many friends.
Mrs. Todd was a student of West Alexander Academy. She was a member of the Neighbornood Club and of the Nen Nobis Class of the Presbyterian Sunday School. [Ref: ClaysvillePA Recorder 4/16/1926]
