The Dexal Shannon book ... only asserts that Anna Crow (Mrs. Wm. Crow) was Anna Shannon, daughter of Thomas Shannon and Agness.
The evidence is from a series of wills and deeds from Amherst Co. VA. Sometime after the death of Thomas Shannon his son Samuel along with his wife Jean Reid settled near the north fork of the Rockfish River in what is now Nelson Co. VA. In 1750 he received a patent there to 150 acres in what was then Albemarle Co. He was joined there by his brother Thomas Shannon who, in 1761, purchased land on the Rockfish River (by then in Amherst Co. from Wm. Montgomery. A few years later he purchased additional land from his nephew, also Thomas Shannon. This latter deed was witnessed by Ann Crow. Thomas died in 1772 leaving a will again witnessed by Ann Crow. The will mentions a "nephew" Sarah Crow (Ann and Wm. Crow had a daughter Sarah) and unnamed children of William Crow. The will also identified the deceased as the brother of Samuel Shannon. Executors of the estate were Samuel Shannon and James Reid (a younger brother of Jean Reid Shannon).
The inference that Shannon genealogists have drawn from this along with the Lancaster Co. PA wills of Thomas Shannon and John Reid is that after the death of Thomas Shannon and John Reid in PA, Samuel Shannon and his wife Jean (daughter of John Reid) settled in Virginia and raised their younger siblings; Ann Shannon and James Reid. Ann eventually married Wm. Crow. Samuel's family and the Crows eventually migrated to Montgomery Co. (now Giles Co.) VA. [Ref: Russ Reid 12/12/2002]
