Research Notes:
John Todd and wife, Mary Gillespie, lived in Milltown Co Antrim, Ireland, and were linen weavers. Milltown, Ireland, is now a part of Belfast according to report. [WTM: Milltown was rather in Co Tyrone] [Ref: GILLESPIE Family, TODD Family]

information from family Bible indicates the children of James Todd and Mary Gillespie were born in Co Tyrone, and that references to "Milltown" are not to the town of that name near Belfast [Ref: Win Tracy 11/30/2010]

[WTM: apparently incorrect, refers probably to a more remote ancestor]
Born in Scotland from whence he fled to Ireland during the persecution of early Christians [Ref: SanFranciscoCA History p567]

[WTM: apparently incorrect, refers to wrong John TODD, and wrong George]
two brothers, George and William. George came to the United States several years after his brother John and settled in Kentucky, from whom sprang the family of Mrs President Lincoln [Ref: SanFranciscoCA History p567]

An Elder in Mr. Moorhead's Church. [Ref: GILLESPIE Family]

[WTM: incorrect, the TODD immigrants to Connecticut were a different branch]
Sons John and William were the first to emigrate; landed at New London, Conn, Sep 10 1754. [Ref: GILLESPIE Family]

definitely established that he had two brothers, James and George, who came to America with him in 1801 [Ref: Shields SAWHILL p11]

William TODD who married Elizabeth NEELY was [Dr. John TODD's] uncle. His father John TODD and William TODD were brothers. These ancestors came from Ireland to America later in November 1754; landed at New London, Conn, where they remained that winter and going then to some place in New Jersey where they remained for 3 years. [WTM: wording is not clear whether arrival date is referring to John and William (conflicting Sep 10 1754 date) or referring to William and Elizabeth; incorrect in either case] [Ref: Frank Todd 3/20/1935]

Their sons John and William emigrated to this country first and were followed by James and George. They settled in Maryland it is reported -- also a record says they settled in Chester Co. PA. [Ref: TODD Family]

first lived near Lancaster, PA; later moved to Washington Co, PA [Ref: Shields SAWHILL p12]

John Todd and Mary Gilespie emigrated to Lancaster Co, Pa. From there to near Buffalo Village, Washington Co, Pa., from there to near Wollsville, Ohio, on the West Virginia side. The Gillespie estate was either an entailed estate or money deposited for Mary Gillespie to draw a yearly income from, as that was the way they often left property to a female heir (or line). [Ref: GILLESPIE Family]

[WTM: the year seems accurate, but wife was age 44-45 and daughter born 1797]
came to America about 1801, age 80 [Ref: GILLESPIE Family]

[WTM: apparently wrong John TODD]
1790: Census of Washington Co, PA, p6, listed with three free white males over age 16, one white male under age 16, and three white females [Ref: 1790 PA Washington 08]

[WTM: apparently wrong John TODD]
1800: possibly the John TODD listed on County Census of Taxables for Nottingham Twp, Washington Co, PA (Bell, Washington Co Inhabitants). But, the John Todd of Nottingham Twp had wife Rosannah, not Elizabeth (Washington Co Deed 1D-411) also called Fanny (Washington Co Deed 1X-249) [Ref: Bell WashCoInhab, WTM, WashingtonCoPA Deeds 1D-411, WashingtonCoPA Deeds 1X-249]
