This Indenture made the 16th day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand
eight hundred and forty between Edward Coulter Dixon Coulter, Christina and
Jane Coulter heirs at large of Dixon Coulter deceased late of Ohio County
Virginia of the first part and William Todd of the County and state aforesaid
of the second part, Witnesseth that the parties of the first part for and in
consideration of the sum of thirty one dollars sixty two and one half cents to
them in hand paid at and before the ensealing and delivery of these presents
the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged has granted bargained and sold and
by these presents grant bargain sell and convey unto the party of the second
part his heirs and assigns forever a tract of land in the county aforesaid on
the waters of Little Wheeling Creek, adjoining the land of Joseph Terrel and
others and bounded as follows, viz, beginning at a post thence north 3 west
twenty five and four tenths perches to a stone corner to Joseph Frank thence
south four degrees west fourteen and two tenths perches to a Swamp bush thence
north seventeen and one half degrees East fifteen and six tenth perches to a
post thence north fifty degrees east fifteen perches to the beginning,
containing one acre and one half and thirteen perches, Together with all and
singular the tenements hereditaments and apurtenances as to the same belonging
or in any wise appertaining to have and to hold the said tract of land
together with all the tenements hereditaments and appurtenances to the same
belonging or in any way appertaining to the party of the second part his heirs
and assigns forever to the only proper use and behoof of him the said party of
the second part his heirs and assigns forever, and the said parties of the
first part do for themselves and their heirs covenant promise and agree to and
with the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns that they the
said party of the first part ?> the said tract of land aforesaid is seized
possessed and entitled to a good and perfect and indefeasible estate in
indenture in fee simple and that they have good right and authority to sell
convey and assure the same to the said party of the second part and his heirs
and assigns forever and further that they the said party of the first the said
tract of land aforesaid together with its tenements and hereditaments and
appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining unto the said
party of the second part and his heirs and assigns forever free from the claim
and claims of all persons whatsoever claiming the same tract of land shall and
will warrant and forever defend. In testimony thereof the said party of the
first part hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year above written.

Ohio County SS. We Samuel Oldham and John Gilman Justices of the Peace in
the County aforesaid in the State of Virginia do certify Edmund Coulter Dixon
Coulter Christina Coulter Jane Coulter parties to a certain deed bearing date
on the 16th day of May 1840 and hereunto annexed personally appeared before us
in our County and acknowledged the same to be their act and deed and desired
as to certify the same acknowledgement to the Clerk of the County Court for
Ohio County aforesaid in order that the same deed may be recorded. Given

Ohio Co VA Deeds 29-497, dated 21 Nov 1846:
This Indenture made and entered into this twenty first day of November A.D.
1846 by and between Wallace J Todd of the County of St Louis and State of
Missouri party of the first part and John Todd and William Todd of Ohio County
of the State of Virginia parties of the second part, Witnesseth that the said
party of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and
seventy five dollars to him in hand paid by the said parties of the second
part, the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged do by these presents
bargain, sell, and grant claim unto them the said John Todd and William Todd,
all his rights title and interest in and to a certain parcel of land and
premises known and designated as the Todd farm, situate on the waters of
Middle Wheeling Creek, in the County of Ohio in the state of Virginia, to
which I am or may be entitled to as one of the heirs of my deceased father
William Todd. To have and to hold unto them the said John and William Todd
and to their heirs and assigns all my said interest in and to said farm, and
the appurtenances thereof forever. And I the said Wallace J Todd do for
myself my heirs and assigns covenant to forever warrand the aforesaid interest
unto them the said John and William against all persons claiming or to claim
the same by through or under me, and none others, it being understood between
the parties hereto, that this is intended a quit claim deed only. In
testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal at St Louis,
Missouri, the day and year first above written. W. J. Todd.
State of Missouri, County of St. Louis SS. We Peter H Johnston and Diogenes
Witmore in the County aforesaid in the State of Missouri two Justices of the
peace as aforesaid do hereby certify that W.J. Todd a party to a certain deed
dated the twenty first day of November 1846 hereto annexed personally appeared
before us in our County aforesaid and acknowledged the same to be his act and
deed and desired us to certify his said acknowledgement to the Clerk of the
County Court of Ohio County in the State of Virginia in order that the same
deed may be recorded. Given under our hands and seals the day and year

Justice of the Peace.
State of Missouri, County of St Louis SS. I the undersigned Stephen D Barlow
Clerk of the St. Louis County Court do certify that Peter W Johnston and

Justies of the Peace duly commissioned and qualified in that their signatures
thereunto are genuine, and that to all such their official acts full faith and

This deed made the seventeenth day of April in the year of our Lord one
thousand eight hundred and fifty two between Joseph Ferrell and Esther his
wife and William Todd, Witnesseth, that in consideration of four hundred and
thirty two dollars and sixty cents in hand paid, said Joseph Ferril and Esther
his wife doth grant, with general warranty unto the said William Todd, all of
a certain tract of land situated in the County of Ohio, State of Virginia, on
the waters of Middle Wheeling Creek and bounded as follows, viz, Beginning at
an Iron wood bush in the line of James Todd, near to where his spring run
crosses the line, thence north one and one fourth degrees east fifty eight and
five tenth poles to south corner of Samuel Chambers place, thence north sixty
six and one half degrees west two and one half poles along Chambers line to a
stone, thence south forty two and one half degrees West forty seven poles
sixteen links to an apple tree, thence south sixty three and one half degrees
west fifty nine poles nine links to a stone in the line of John Pairson,
thence with his line south fifty degrees east thirty seven and one tenth poles
to a stone, thence north fifty three degrees east fifty four poles twenty four
links to a white oak, thence south eighty eight degrees east twenty four links
to a white oak, thence south eighty eight degrees east twenty two and two
tenth poles to the place of beginning, containing eighteen acres and four

County of Ohio, to wit, We Andrew Yates and John Gilmore, Justices of the
peace for the County aforesaid I the State of Virginia, do certify that Joseph
Ferrel whose name is signed to the annexed writing, bearing date on the
seventeenth day of April, has acknowledged the same before us in our county
aforesaid, Given under our hands this twenty second day of April 1852. Andrew

certify that Esther Ferril, the wife of Joseph Ferril, whose names are signed
to the writing annexed bearing date on the seventeenth of April, personally
appeared before us in the County aforesaid, and being examined by us
foivily(?) and apart from her husband, and having the writing aforesaid fully
explained to her, she the said Esther Ferrell acknowledged the said writing to
be her act and declared that she had willingly executed the same and does not
with to retract it. Given under our hands this 23rd day of April, 1852.

Whereas William Todd, now of Guernsey County, Ohio, long since sold to his
brother James Todd, now of Ohio County West Virginia, the property hereinafter
described and for a valuable consideration conveyed the same to the said James
Todd by a deed or deeds which were never recorded and are now lost and it is
desired that a good title shall now be made for the same to the said James
Todd, this deed made this eighteenth day of July A.D. 1877 between the parties
above named. Witnesseth that the said William Todd in consideration of the
above recited facts and in the sum of one dollar to him in hand paid the
receipt of which is hereby acknowledged doth grant with covenant of general
warranty unto the said James Todd the following described property, situated
on the Waters of Middle Wheeling Creek in said County of Ohio that is to say:
beginning at a stake on the line of James Buchanan's farm, thence N 21 1/2 E
35 poles 8 links to a dead white oak in the west line of the tract conveyed by
Stephen Coe to William Todd the father of the parties hereto thence by said
line N (or N 1/4 E) 68 4/10 poles to S Chambers corner thence N 66 1/2 W 2 1/2
poles along Chambers line to a stone, thence S 42 1/2 W 47 poles 16 links to
an apple tree thence S 68 1/2 W 59 poles 9 links to a stone in line of John
Pairson, thence with his line S 50 E 37 1/10 poles to a stone (corner to
Coulter parcel hereby conveyed), thence S 4 W 14 3/10 poles to a swamp beech
thence S 17 1/2 E 15 6/10 poles to a post thence N 50 E above 7 poles to a
post thence (by line of Buchanan parcel hereby conveyed) S 14 1/2 E 24 poles
to a post thence N 88 E 12 poles to a white oak on the east side of the run,
thence N 16 3/4 W 31 poles to a plum tree (corner to jas Ferrel ten acre tract
hereby conveyed) thence N 89 1/4 E 28 poles 20 links thence N 21 1/2 E 35
poles 8 links to the beginning containing thirty one acres two rods and thirty
nine perches more or less, and being composed of four several parcels of land
conveyed at different times to the said grantor William Todd by deeds recorded
in the land records of Ohio County as follows: Deed Book v 33 pages 512, 514,
and 515, and Deed book v. 42 page 229.

within and for said County do hereby certify that William Todd whose name is

1877 has this day acknowledged the same before me in my said county. Given

presents do bargain, sell and quit claim unto the said James Todd his heirs
and assigns forever all my personal right, title, and interest estate claim
and demand in the estate of William Todd (deceased) also the one half of
brother Wallace's share in and to all that certain farm or piece of land
situate on the waters of Middle Wheeling Creek in Ohio Co West Virginia and
bounded as follows. to wit: On the East the lands of Silas McDonald and Nancy
Eiskine, on the south by Joseph Blayney on the west and north by James Todd
with all and singular the heriditaments and appurtenances thereunto belonging
in Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 15th day of
August in the year 1877.
