father of Margaret m William Moore. James Sr d 1835, will mentions William
REED and James REED in addition to Isabella Murray. Further, marriage
ceremony of daughter Isabel was performed by Joseph Stevenson who was pastor
of West Alexander Presbyterian Church, further linking this family with the

This Indenture made and Entered into this Seventh day of January one
thousand Seven hundred and Ninety three by and between John Humphreys of Ohio
County and State of Virginia of the one part and James Reed of the County and
State aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that the aforesaid John Humphreys
for and in Consideration of the Sum of one hundred and four pounds three
Shillings and four pence to him in hand Paid by the Said James Reed Receipt
whereof is hereby acknowledged hath Bargained and Sold and by these presents
doth give grant bargain Sell Alien and Confirm unto the aforesaid James Reed a
Certain Piece parcel of Tract of land laying on a South Branch of Buffaloe
Creek known by the name of the Long run in Ohio County and Bounded as
followeth (to wit) Beginning at Two Ironwood Sapplins on a run Corner to
George Huphrey thence with his line South sixty degrees East thirty Poles to
an Ironwood on the side of a Ridge corner to George Humphrey and With his

in consideration of the sum of four hundred and fifty dollars to him in hand
paid by the said Reed the Receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath granted
bargained sold and conveyed and doth by these presents grant bargain sell and
convey unto the said James Reed a certain piece or parcel of land in the
county aforesaid on the waters of Castlemans Run Bounded as followeth viz,
Beginning at an ironwood on the land at a corner to the tract of land said
Merrick now lives and thence North sixty degrees west thirty poles to two iron
wood thence by land of John Jeoffrey South sixty five degrees West one hundred
and seventy poles to a Beach and Dogwood, thence by land of said Reed South
sixty seven and one half degrees East one hundred and sixty one poles to a

This Indenture made this 4th day of April in the Year of our Lord 1810 by
and between William Merrick of Ohio County in the Commonwealth of Virginia of
the one part and James Reed of the county and state aforesaid of the other
part, Witnesseth that the said William Merrick hath sold unto the said James
Reed a certain piece or parcel of land in Ohio County in the State of Virginia
on the Waters of Castlemans Run and bounded as follows, Beginning at a Red Oak
in James Kerrs line thence with his line south 13 degrees East 22 poles to a
post thence by lands of Robert Humphrey North 20 1/2 degrees east 84 poles to
a white oak thence North 67 degrees West 28 poles to a sugar tree thence by
other land of Said Reed South 19 degrees West 82 poles to the Beginning,
containing 107 acres(?). Now this Indenture witnesseth that the said William
for and in consideration of the sum of Fifteen dollars to him in hand paid by
the said James Reed the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged doth grant
bargain sell and convey and by these presents granted bargained sold and
conveyed unto the said James Reed all the above mentioned land together with
all the woods waters and appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise
appertaining to the only proper use and behoof of him the said James Reed his
heirs or assigns forever, and the said William Merrick doth covenant and
promise to and with the said James Reed that he the said James Reed that
William Merrick his heirs executors and administrators all the above described
land unto the said James Reed his heirs or assigns will warrant and forever

said James Reed at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents the

presents do and each of them doth bargain and sell unto the said James Reed
his heirs and assigns a certain piece or parcel of land in the County of Ohio
Virginia on the Waters of Castlemans Run containing 53 acres and bounded as
followeth viz, Beginning at a Hickory on the North side of a ridge in a line
between John Jeffery and the Heirs of Hezekiel Dawson thence South 2 degrees
East 73 poles to a white Oak thence South 70 degrees West 56 poles to a beach

Covenant and promise to and with the Said John Fasford his heirs or assignes
that they the said James and Nancy Reed their Heirs Executors or
Administrators unto the Said John Fasford or his Assigns all the above
described land and warrant and forever and of and from themselves their heirs
and all and every person or persons lawfully Claiming the Same unto the Said
John Fasford his Heirs and assigns forever, in testimony of which we the
aforesaid James Reed and Nancy Reed have hereunto set our hands and affixed

the Said County do hereby Certify that James Reed party to the within
Conveyance Hath duly acknowledged the Same before us onj the 12th day of

to the Clerk of the County Court of Ohio in order that the said

Will of James Reed, Ohio County Will Book 3-146, dated 22 Dec 1835, proved
Feb term 1836:
In the name of God amen. I James Reed Senior of Ohio County and State of
Virginia being at present in a weak State of body and calling to mind my
mortality and being of Sound mind and memory (blessed be Almighty God for the
Same) do Make and declare this my last will and testament in manner and form
following. First I resign my Soul into the hands of Almighty God hoping and
believing in a remission of my Sins by the merits and mediation of Jesus
Christ And my body I Commit to the earth to be buried in a decent and
Christian like manner And my worldly estate I give and devise as follows
First I give and bequeath to my dear and beloved wife One House and Lot in
West Alexandria Washington County Pennsylvania during her natural life
together with all the money that belonged to her before she was or became my
wife and also will and bequeath to my wife one third of my real estate and
personal estate or in case my wife after my decease Should chuse to leave my
present residence and live elsewhere then and in that Case I bequeath to her
thirty dollars per year to be paid Annually to her by those hereafter named
and also my wife to have the house to have the house and Lot together with
money that was hers before our marriage Item2d I will and bequeath to my
daughters Jane McCamant Margaret Pourter Nancy Pickins and Isabella MacMurrey
one dollar each and also one bed and bed clothing that was mine before my last
marriage I bequeath to my four daughters to be equally divided bewixt them
Item 3d I bequeath to my Son William one tract of land on which he now lives
to have and to hold with the appurtinces thereto belonging to him his heirs
executors administrators and assigns forever Item 4th I bequeath to my Son
John One Dollar Item 5th I bequeath to my Son James One tract of land on which
he now lives subject to the hereafter named reserves to him his heirs
executors administrators and assigns forever. Item 6th I bequeath to my Son
David One tract of land on which he and myself now live Subject to reserver's
hereafter named to him his Heirs Executors Administrators and assigns forever.
Item 7th I bequeath to my Son James the mare I now own and the remainder of my
moveable property and not heretofore bequeathed I will to my son David
deducting therefrom So much as may be necessary to discharge my debts if there
be any and in relation to the reserves upon my bequeathments to my Sons James
and David I require equally of each of them a comfortable and reasonable
Support for the maintenance of my wife during her natural life and continues
to reside where She now lives and to pay annually to her fifteen dollars each
in case she chuses to live else where also I require of my Sons James & David
to pay out of what I have bequeathed to them the money I have bequeathed to my
four daughters and also the bequeathment to my Son John. And lastly I appoint
my Son William and James Executors of this my last Will and Testament hereby
revoking all former Wills by me made And I require of the above named
Executors of this my Last Will that they pay off all my bequeathments except
to my wife in Six months after my decease. In witness whereof I have hereunto
