This Indenture made this third day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty six between David Reed and Catherine his wife of the County of Ohio and State of Virginia of the first part and James Reed of the County and State aforesaid of the second part, Witnesseth that the said parties of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of one thousand dollars to them in hand paid at or before the ensealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have granted bargained and sold, and do by these presents grant bargain sell and convey unto the said party o the second part his heirs and assigns forever a tract of land lying in the County of Ohio and State of Virginia and situate on the head waters of Castlemans Run and adjoining the land of Thomas Moore, John Tedford Robert Humphreys and others, and bounded as followeth, to wit, Beginning at a red oak, corner to John Tedford, and with his line North thirty eight degrees East eighty perches to a post, thence South seventy one and one half degrees East seventeen perches to a bush, corner to Robert Humphreys and with his line North twenty seven and three fourth degrees east seventy seven perches to a large white oak corner to the land of David Reed, and with his line North sixty six and three fourth degrees west one hundred and fifty nine and two tenths perches to a post in Edward Blaney's line and with the same South fifty six degrees west eighty seven and five tenth perches to a stone, thence South sixty three degrees East one hundred and eighty three perches to the beginning, Containing ninety one acres one quarter and thirty six perches, together with all and singular the tenements hereditaments and appurtenances to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining, to have and to hold the said ninety one acres and one quarter and thirty six perches, together with all the tenements hereditaments and appurtenances to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining, to the said party of the second part and his heirs and assigns forever to the only proper use and behoof of him the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns forever, and the said party of the first part, for themselves and their heirs, do covenant promise and agree, to and with the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns that they the said party of the first part in and to the said ninety one acres one quarter and thirty six perches aforesaid are seized possessed of and entitled to a good sure perfect and indefeasable state of inheritance in fee simple, and that they have good right and lawful authority to sell convey and assign the same to the said party of the second part, and his heirs and assigns forever, and further that they the said party of the first part the said ninety one acres one quarter and thirty six perches aforesaid together with the tenements hereditaments and appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining unto the said party of the second part and his heirs and assigns forever, free from the claim or claim of all person whatsoever, claiming or to claim the said ninety one acres one quarter and thirty six perches, shall and will warrant and forever defend. This Indenture made this thirtieth day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty eight between Angins McCoy and Fergens Smith executors of the last Will and Testament of James Parcell deceased of the first part and James Reed of the second part, Witnesseth that the said parties of the first part for and in consideration of Fourteen hundred and seventy three dollars to them paid by the said party of the second part and secured to be paid, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have granted bargained and sold, and by these presents do grant bargain sell and convey to said party of the second part his heirs and assigns forever all the following described tract of parcel of land Situate on Middle Wheeling part in Ohio County Virginia and part in Washington County Pennsylvania, containing sixty six acres and 103 poles more or less, and which tract or parcel of land is bounded as follows, to wit, Beginning at a Stake in the state line near a bush on a bank, thence North 87 3/4 W 64 2/10 poles to a white oak thence S 1 1/2 W 77 poles to a stone thence S 32 E 94 poles to a White Oak thence crossing the state line S 79 E 9 3/10 poles to a stake, thence N 67 1/2 E 38 2/10 poles to a stone, thence N 11 1/2 W 51 4/10 poles to a stone, thence N 33 W 64 8/10 poles to the state line, thence with the state line 25 8/10 poles to the beginning, being the same tract or parcel of land devised by James Parcell to his daughter Margaret Myers for and during her natural life and at her death to be sold by his said executors, And which tract of land, the said executors, the said Margaret Myers being dead, sold and puties(?) sale to James Reed at the price of Twenty two dollars and ten cents per acres, the said Reed being the highest and best bidder, Together with all and singular the hereditaments and appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining, to Have and to hold all and singular the premises hereby granted or mentioned and intended so to be, unto said party of the second part his heirs and assigns, to and for the only proper use and behoof of the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns forever, And the said parties of the first part, for themselves their heirs executors and administrators do by these presents covenant with said party of the second part his heirs and assigns that the said parties of the first part their heirs executors and administrators all and singular the premises hereby granted or mentioned and intended so to be shall and will warrant and forever defend unto said party of the second part his heirs and assigns against the said parties of the first part and against all and every other person or persons whomsoever lawfully claiming or to claim the same or any part thereof or any interest or right therein in to through or under them, the said parties of the first part and none other. It is agreed and understood that part of the within tract of land which lies in Virginia contains forty four acres and 144 perches as per a deed from Wm Brownbe to James Purcell recorded in Ohio County Virginia dated the 19th day of October 1830, recorded Book No 16, and that the remainder lying in Pennsylvania is supposed to contain Twenty acres and 136 poles, Witness the hands and seals of the within grantors Fergus Smith.

This Indenture made this thirtieth day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty eight, between James J Reed of the County of Ohio of the first part, Zachariah Jacob of Wheeling of the second part, and Angins McCoy and Fergins Smith Executors of James Parcell, decd, of the third part, Witnesseth that the said party of the first part, for and in consideration of the reasons and Trusts and purposes after named and of the sum of five dollars to him paid by the said party of the second part, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, hath granted bargained and sold and by these presents doth grant bargain sell and convey to the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns all the following described tract of land in the Waters of Middle Wheeling situated in Ohio County Virginia in part and Washington County Pennsylvania in part, containing sixty six acres and 112 poles more or less and which is the same tract of land this day conveyed to the said Party of the first part by the said parties of the third part by deed of even date herewith and which tract is bounded as in the said last mentioned deed is set forth, and being the same tract of land devised by James Purcell to his daughter Margaret Myers for life and at her death to be sold by his said Executors and which the said Executors she said Margaret Myers being dead did sell at public sale, to James Reed, he being the highest and best bidder, Together with all and singular the hereditaments and appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining, TO have and to hold all and singular the premises hereby granted or mentioned and intended so to be unto said party of the second part his heirs and assigns to and for the only proper use and behoof of the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns forever, And said party of the first part for himself his heirs etc, doth by these presents covenant with said party of the second part his heirs and assigns that the said party of the first part his heirs all and singular the premises hereby granted or mentioned and intended so to be shall and will warrant and forever defend unto said party of the second party his heirs and assign against the said party of the first part and against all and every other person or persons whomsoever lawfully claiming or to claim the same or any part thereof or any interest or right thereon. But this Indenture is upon the Trust and for the purposes hereinafter words expressed and set forth, that is, Whereas the said party of the first part owes the said parties of the third part the sum of nine hundred and eighty two dollars as purchase money still due them on their sale of the said land to said Reed and which is payable one half on the first day of August 1849 and the other half on the first day of August 1850 (Eighteen hundred and fifty) all with interest from the first day of August Eighteen Hundred and forty eight and which sum of $982 is secured by two notes each for the sum of $491, one payable on the first day of August 1849 with interest from the first of August 1848 and the other one payable on the first of August 1850 with like interest from the first of August 1848, And Whereas the said land is bound for said purchase money and the said party of the first part is desirous to make the payments of the same secured as it falls due. Now then this Indenture is upon the trust and intent that the said Trustee Jacob shall permit the said party of the first part to possess the said tract and takes the rents and profits thereof till default shall be made in making said payment punctually as each of them respectively falls due. But upon this further trust and purpose that if said party of the first part shall make default in paying the said sums or either of them as they each become due, then said Trustee Jacob shall having first given thirty days notice of the time and place of sale, by an advertisement thereof published in any newspaper printed in Wheeling, proceed to sell to the highest bidder on the terms aftermentioned and explained the said tract of land aforesaid, And out of the proceeds of sale shall first pay himself a commission of five percent on the amount of sale and other costs of sale, and secondly the dept aforesaid and all interest due thereon, and thirdly the balance if any to the said party of the first part, his personal representatives or his assigns, And it is agreed that if default is made in making payment of said note first due and said Trustee shall proceed to sell before the other instrument or note is due, that then he is to sell for as much in case in hand as will pay said costs and commissions and whatever may be due on the first not or note first due, and as to sum due on a credit not shorter than he next note will become due if both notes are due when a sale is made it may be sold all for case or for part case and part on a reasonable credit as said Jacob may think is proper. It is also agreed that said Jacob may execute this trust in person or by agent and in case of his decease any one by heirs by will or writing authorized may do the same. It is also agreed that when a sale is once advertised the Trustee selling may continue sale from day to day or from time to time at his discretion without a new or further notice or other advertisement. And also that when the whole of said money is paid that said Trustee and conditions at the proper costs of said debtor party of the first part, will release the said tract of land to him his heirs or assigns. Humphrey and with his line N 27 1/4 E 77 poles to a large white oak corner to the land of David Reed and with his line N 60 3/4 W 159 poles to a post in Edward Blayneys land and with the same S 58 W 89 5/10 poles to a stone thence S 63 E 183 poles to the beginning with all and singular the appurtenances to the said tract or parcel of land belonging or in any wise appertaining and all the estate right title and interest of the said Reed in and to the same granted or intended to be hereby granted tract or parcel of land and premises, to have and to hold the said hereby granted or intended to be hereby granted tract or parcel of land and premises, TO have and to hold the said hereby granted or intended to be hereby granted premises with its appurtenances unto the said Isaac Hupp his heirs and assigns forever to the only proper use and behoof of the said Isaac Hupp his heirs and assigns forever, and the said James Reed for himself his heirs executors and administrators doth hereby covenant promise and agree to and with the said Isaac Hupp his heirs and assigns forever in manner and form following,, that is to say that the said James Reed his heirs and assigns the aforesaid tract or parcel of land said premises their appurtenances unto the said Isaac Hupp his heirs and assigns against all persons whatsoever shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents, upon trust nevertheless that the said Isaac Hupp his heirs executors and administrators shall permit the said Reed to remain in quiet and peaceably possession of the said parcel or tract of land and premises with its appurtenances and take the profits thereof to his own use until default be made in the payment of the said sum of Four hundred dollars either in whole or in part and then upon their further trust that the said Isaac Hupp his heirs or assigns shall and will so soon after the happening of such default of payment as he may thing proper or Abraham Cox his executors administrators or assigns shall request sell the said tract of land and premises with the appurtenances or such part of the hereby granted premises as the trustee of his representatives authorized to act shall think, sufficient for the purpose and shall think proper to sell to the highest bidder for ready money at public auction after having fixed the time and place of sale at their own discretion and given at least thirty days notice thereof in one or more of the newspapers printed in the said County of Ohio and State aforesaid and also notified the same by advertisement to be set up at the door of the Court House of the County aforesaid on some Court day previous to the day of sale and out of the moneys arising from such sale shall after satisfying the charges thereof and all other expenses attending the premises pay to the said Abraham Cox his executors administrators or assigns the said sum four hundred dollars with the interest which may thereon lawfully have accrued and the balance if any shall pay to the said James Reed his heirs executors administrators or assigns but if the whole of the said sum of four hundred dollars with interest thereon shall be fully paid off and discharged to the said Abraham Cox his executors administrators of assigns on or before the day of December in the year 1853 then the same is payable so that no default of payment of the said sum of four hundred dollars be made then this indenture to be void or else to remain in full force and virtue. This Deed made the 29th day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty eight between James Reed of the first part and William Reed of the second part, all of the County of Ohio and State of West Virginia, Witnesseth that in consideration of eight hundred dollars the said James Reed do grant unto the said William Reed all of the following tract of land situated on the waters of Castlemans Run in the County and State aforesaid, and bounded as follows, to wit, beginning at a post in the line of Thomas Patison and with his line North six and one half degrees East ninety two and eight tenths poles to a post in the line of Adam Blayney, and with his line north eighty and one half degrees West fifty eight and eight tenths perches to a post on the south side of with the road South forty two and one half degrees West twelve perches to a post thence South thirty eight and one half degrees West nine and five tenths perches to a white oak thence South nineteen degrees West twenty and nine tenths perches to a post in the road thence South eighty and one half degrees East eighty and six tenths perches to the beginning, Containing fourteen acres. Washington Co PA Deeds 5E-7, dated 15 Oct 1874:
This Indenture made the 15 day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy four between William A Myers Administrator of all and Singular the goods and chattles rights and credits which are of James Golding late of the Township of Donegal in the County of Washington and State of Pennsylvania, deceased, of the one part and James Reed of Ohio County State of West Virginia of the other part, Whereas the said James Golding in his lifetime and at the time of his death was seized in his demesne as of fee of certain lot of ground situate in the Town of West Alexander in said county, Commencing at the east corner of the same being fifty feet in front on Main Street and extending back there from two hundred and fifty feet, adjoining property of John Blaney on the East and North and other property belonging to the estate on the West, on which is erected a two Storied brick dwelling house, Also one vacant lot of ground adjoining the above described property being fifty feet in front and two hundred fifty feet deep and Adjoining property of David Frazier and John Blaney, And Whereas Letters of Administration of all and Singular the goods and Chattels rights and credits which were of the said James Golding at the time of his death were in due form of law committed unto the said William A Myers, And whereas the said Administrator at an Orphans Court, held at Washington in and for said County, presented a petition setting forth that the personal estate of the said decedent is insufficient to pay his debts, and that it is requisite to sell the above described real estate for the payment thereof, Accompanying the same with an inventory and appraisement of the personal estate of the said decedent and a correct statement of all the real estate of the said decedent, and a correct account and statement of all debts of the decedent which had come to the knowledge of the said Administrators, Whereupon it appearing manifest unto the court aforesaid that the personal estate of the said James Golding deceased was not sufficient to pay his debts It was considered and ordered by the said Court on the third day of August A.D. one thousand eight hundred and seventy four that the Real Estate hereafter described be sold according to the prayers of the petitioners, And Whereas, in pursuance of the said order and by force and virtue of the laws of the State in such case made and provided, afterwards, to wit, on the third day of October A.D. 1874 the said William A Myers did expose the said hereinafter described real estate to sale at public venue or outcry, after giving notice thereof according to law, and sold the same unto the said James Reed, for the sum of Eleven hundred and seventy Dollars, he being the highest bidder, and that the highest and best price bidden therefore, which sale, on report thereof made to the Judges of the said Court, on the 12th day of October A.D. 1874 was confirmed, and it was considered and adjudged by the said Court that the same should be and remain firm and Stable forever, and good and sufficient security, approved by the said Court, for the faithful application of the proceeds of sale, has been duly entered as by these records of the same Court more fully and at large appears. Now this indenture witnesseth that the said William A Myers, Administrator as aforesaid for and in consideration of the sum of Eleven Hundred and Seventy Dollars, to him I n hand paid by the said James Reed at and before the sealing and delivery hereof, the receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge, hath granted, bargained, sold aliened, enfeoffed, released and confirmed, and by these presents doth hereby grant, bargain, sell, alien, enfeoff, release, and confirm unto the said James reed his heirs and Assigns, all the following described Real Estate, to wit, A certain lot of ground situate in the town of West Alexander in said Washington County being fifty feet in front on Main Street and Extending back therefrom two hundred and fifty feet, Adjoining property of John Blaney on the East and North and other property belonging to the estate of said decedent on the West, on which is erected a two storied brick dwelling house, Also on another vacant lot of ground, adjoining the above described property and property of David Frazier on the west and John Blaney on the North being fifty feet in front on main Street and running back two hundred and fifty feet, Together, also, with all and singular the buildings improvements ways, waters water courses rights liberties, privilege hereditaments, and appurtenances whatsoever thereunto belonging, or in anywise appertaining, and the reversions and remainders rents, issues, and profits thereof and also all the right, title, interest, property, claim and demand whatsoever of the said James Golding in his lifetime at and immediately before the time of his decease, in law equity or otherwise howsoever, of in and to or out of the same, To have and to hold the said above described parcelof land hereditaments and premises hereby granted or mentioned and intended so to be with the appurtenances unto the said James Reed and his heirs and assigns forever, And the said William A Myers doth covenant promise grant and agree to and with the said James Reed, and his heirs and assigns, by these presents, that he the said William Myers hath not done, committed or knowingly or willingly suffered to be done, any act matter or thing whatsoever, whereby the premises aforesaid or any part thereof is are shall or may be charged or incumbered in title charge or estate or otherwise howsoever. Washington County, SS. This indenture made the twenty ninth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy five between James Reed of the Borough of West Alexander County of Washington and State of Pennsylvania of the first part and William Reed of the County of Ohio and State of West Virginia of the second part. Witnesseth that the said parties of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of forty five hundred and seventy five dollars lawful money of the United States of America unto him well and truly paid by the said party of the second part, at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have granted, bargained, sold, aliened, enfeoffed, released, conveyed, and confirmed and by these presents do grant, bargain, sell, alien, enfeoff, release, convey, and confirm unto the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns all that certain tract or parcel of land situate in Liberty Township County of Ohio and State of West Virginia and bounded and described as follows: beginning at a red oak corner to Andrew Yates and with his line North thirty eight degrees east eight perches to a post, thence south seventy one and one half degrees east seventeen perches to a luth(??) corner to William Rice and with his line North seventy seven and three fourth degrees east seventy seven perches to a large white oak corner to the land of said William Reed and with his line North sixty six and three fourth degrees west one hundred and fifty nine and two tenths perches to a post in Edward Blaneys line and wiith the same South fifty six degrees west eighty nine and five tenth perches to a stone, thence south sixty three degrees east one hundred and eighty three perches to the place of beginning, containing ninety one acres one quarter and thirty six perches adjoining lands of William Moore and the West Andrew Yates on the south William Rice on the East William Reed on the North East and Edward Blaney on the North west. Together with all and singular the buildings improvements, ways, waters, water courses rights, liberties, privileges, hereditaments and appurtenances whatsoever thereunto belonging or in anywise appertaining and the revisions and remainders, rents issues and profits thereof, and all the estate rights, title, interests, property claim and leward whatsoever of the said parties of the first part in law equity as otherwise howsoever of in and to the same and every part thereof. To have and to hold the said tract of land before described hereditaments and premises hereby granted, as mentioned and witnessed so to be, with the appurtenances, unto the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns to and for the only proper use and behoof of the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns forever. And the said James Reed the said party of the first part, for him and his heirs executors and administrators do by these presents covenant, grant, and agree to and with the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns that he the said party of the first part his heirs all and singular the hereditaments and premises therein above described and granted as mentioned and sutended so to be with the appurtenances unto the said party of the second part, this heirs and assigns against him the said party of the first part and his heirs and against all and every other person or persons whomsoever lawfully claiming as to claim the same as any part thereof, shall and will warrant and forever defend. Washington Co PA Wills 10-737:
I James Reed of West Alexander County of Washington and State of Pennsylvania Being of Sound Mind Memory and Understanding do Make and Publish this my last will and testament hereby revoking and Making void all former wills by me at any time heretofore made. And as to my worldly estate and all the property, real personal or mixed of which I shall die seized and possessed or to which I shall be entitled at the time of my decease, I give devise bequeath and dispose thereof in the manner to wit, First my will is that all my just debts and funeral expenses shall by my Executors hereinafter named be paid out of my estate as soon after my decease as shall by them be found convenient. Second, I give device and bequeath to my daughter Nancy Murray three Hundred Dollars and all of my household goods, also the house and lot that I now occupy situate in the borough of West Alexander during her natural live, and at her death the said House and Lot I give devise and bequeath to my Granddaughter Ida Ebermillion during her natural life and at her death the said House and lot is to be sold and equally divided between her children. Third And all the money of which I shall die seized and possessed or to which I shall be entitled at the time of my decease I give devise and bequeath to be equally divided between my four children Nancy Murray, Mary Edyinton, Susannah Johnson, Margaret E Moore. Fourth the Burial lot that I now own in the Cemetery of West Alexander is not to be sold. My request is that all my children and grandchildren is to be buried there and none others. Lastly I appoint Nicholas Murray and Thomas Yates to be the Executors of this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I James Reed the Testater have to this my will set my hand and seal this 30th day of March 1879. James Reed.

Be it remembered that upon this 21st day of July 1879 before me W H Underwood Register for the Probate of Wills and granting Letters of Administration within and for said County, came Joseph Kelley, Lewis Porter, William Guess the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing attached Will of James Reed deceased, who, after being duly qualified according to law depose and say, that they were present at the execution of said Will, saw the testator sign the same, heard him publish it as and for his last will and testament that they at his request in his presence and in the presence of each other subscribed their names thereto as witnesses.
