Research Notes:
Aug 14 1862: enlisted in Company D, TwelfthWest Virginia Infantry, with brother; stationed at Clarksburg, WV, later sent to Winchester, VA where it participated in the battle there Jun 13-15, 1863. Took part in Battle of Gettysburg, then moved into Shenandoah Valley [Ref: Beers WashingtonCoPA p200]

Jun 5 1864: wounded while charging the works at Piedmont, WV; incapicated for duty for three months, then rejoined regiment [Ref: Beers WashingtonCoPA p200]

Dec 19 1864: regiment transferred to the army of the James, served there until close of the war [Ref: Beers WashingtonCoPA p200]

participated in the siege of Petersburg, VA, and in the famous charge on Fort Gregg, in the chase after Lee's forces, and was present at their surrender [Ref: Beers WashingtonCoPA p200]
