This Deed made this seventeenth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty three Between Oliver Reed of the County of Ohio and State of Virginia on the one part and Hanson Murray (Trustee) of the county and state aforesaid of the other part, Witnesseth that the said Oliver Reed doth grant unto the said Hanson Murray (Trustee) all his right interest and claim in and to a certain tract or parcel of land lying on the waters of Castlemans Run in the county of Ohio and State of Virginia adjoining lands of Edward Blayney Andrew Martin Levi McRune and others, Containing fifty four acres be the same more or less, For trust to secure the payment of an obligation given to Elizabeth J Murray for the sum of one hundred and twenty five dollars with interest from date thereof said obligation is dated on the 17th day of March eighteen hundred and sixty three and becomes due in twenty four months after date, The object of this deed of trust is to secure the faithful and prompt payment of the sum of money above named with all the interest which may be due on the same and if from any cause whatever said Oliver Reed shall fail to pay to the said Elizabeth J Murray or her heirs or assigns the sum of money above named and interest, or any part thereof at the time it becomes due, then and in that case it shall be the duty of the said Trustee above named (if required by the said Elizabeth J Murray or her heirs or assigns) to sell the tract of land of said Oliver Reed Interest in the same as above granted to the said trustee, having first given reasonable notice of the time and place of sale and shall apply the proceeds of sale to the payment of all necessary expenses attending said sale also to the payment of the above named sum and interest to Elizabeth J Murray or order the balance if any to be paid to the said Oliver Reed or his heirs or assigns, the nature and design of the above deed of trust is such that if the said Oliver Reed shall well and truly pay to the said Elizabeth J Murray or her heirs or assigns the sum of money above named and interest thereon at the time it shall become due then and in that case this deed of trust to become null and void, otherwise to remain in full force and virtue. Witness the following signature and seal. Oliver Reed.
Ohio County, to wit, I a Justice of the peace for the County aforesaid in the State of Virginia do certify that Oliver Reed whose name is signed to the writing above bearing date on the 17th day of March 1863 has acknowledged the same before me in my County aforesaid. This Deed made this 23rd day of March in the year one thousand eight hundred and sixty three between James Wilson Reed and Elizabeth his wife, Elijah Moore and Nancy his wife, Elizabeth Murray late Elizabeth Reed, Margaret Lisher(?) late Margaret Reed of Ohio County Virginia, and William Brackenridge and Ellen his wife, and James Brackenridge and Catharine Isabel his wife of Washington County, Ohio, which said James Wilson, Nancy, Elizabeth, Margaret, Ellen, and Catharine Isabel are the children and heirs at law of William Reed late of the said County of Ohio deceased of the first part, and Oliver Reed of the said County of Ohio who is also a child and heir at law of the said William Reed deceased of the second part, Witnesseth that in consideration of one thousand and twenty eight dollars and fifty seven cents to them in hand paid by the said party of the second part, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, the said parties of the first part do grant unto the said party of the second part all their several shares interest and estate as such heirs at law as aforesaid of the said William Reed deceased of in and to all that tract of land situated in the said County of Ohio in which the said party of the second part now resides, and of which the said William Reed died seized, bounded as follows, to wit, beginning at a white oak in Edward Blaneys line and thence south seventy and one fourth degrees (70 1/4) West fifty six and eight tenths (56 8/10) poles to a post in Thomas Moore's line, thence forty two degrees (42) west seventy two and seven tenths (72 7/10) poles to a white oak stump thence North sixty eight and one fourth degrees (68 1/4) West thirty three and six tenths degrees (33 6/10) poles to a post formerly a sugar tree, thence North fifty seven degrees (57) East seventy eight (78) poles to a beech thence south seventy six and one half (76 1/2) degrees east sixty seven and three tenths (67 3/10) poles to a post in Edward Blaney's land thence South two degrees (2) East seventy three and seven tenths (73 7/10) to the beginning, containing fifty four acres three roods and three perches, the interest and estate of each of said heirs at last of the first part being the one undivided seventh part of said tract of land, and the said parties of the first part each for himself and herself hereby severally covenants with the said party of the second part that he or she will severally warrant generally the share interest and estate by him or her hereby conveyed. Ohio Co VA Deeds 47-446, dated 23 Mar 1863:
This Deed made the 23rd day of March in the year Eighteen Hundred and Sixty Three between Oliver Reed of the first part and William Moore of the second part both of the County of Ohio in the State of Virginia, Witnesseth that the said party of the first part doth grant unto the said party of the second part with covenant of general warranty the following described property viz, All that tract of land situate in the said County of Ohio on which the said Oliver Reed now resides and bounded as follows, to wit, beginning at a white oak in Edward Blayneys line thence S 70 3/4 W 56 8/14 poles to a post on Thomas Moores line thence [sic] 42 W 72 7/10 poles to a White oak stump thence N 68 1/4 W 33 8/10 to a post formerly a Sugar Tree thence N 57 E 78 poles to a Beech S 76 1/2 E 67 3/10 poles to a post in Edward Blayneys line S 2 E 73 3/10 to the beginning, containing fifty four acres three roods and three perches, In trust to secure the payment of six hundred and twenty six 55/100 dollars with interest thereon from the first day of April 1862 to become due and owing form the said Oliver Reed to James Wilson Reed Elijah Moore Elizabeth Murray Margaret Fisher William Breckenridge and James W Breckenridge as follows, viz, one fourth of the principle on the first day of April 1864, one fourth April 1st 1865, one fourth April 1st 1866 and one fourth April 1st 1867 and the unpaid interest on the said sum of money on the 1st day of April 1868, And for the payment of which the said Oliver Reed has this day executed and delivered to each of the said creditors separate bond for the sum of one hundred and four 42.100 Dollars with interest thereon from April 1st 1862 until paid for his or share of the said $626 55/100 sever(?) all payable in installments $26 10/100 Each on the first day of April 1864 1865 1866 and 1867 and on the first day of April 1868 the said Oliver Reed agrees to pay the interest on the several instruments from the first day of April 1864 until they were paid respectively for which no note is given. Now if the said party of the first part shall pay the said several sums of money as above set forth then this deed shall be void. But if the said sums or any of them shall become due and remain unpaid then the said William Moore shall upon request of any one of the creditors so unpaid proceed to sell the land hereby conveyed at public sale having first given three months notice of the time and place of sale by public notice published in some newspaper published in the City of Wheeling for cash or upon such terms of credit as to him shall seem most beneficial to the parties interested and out of the proceeds shall first pay the cost of executing this trust secondly shall pay the unpaid installments taking care to provide in such a sale for the installments yet to become due if any and the residue if any shall be paid to the said Oliver Reed. It is agreed that said trustee may act by agent in the execution of this trust and that the sale may be adjoined from time to time by oral proclamation at the day of sale. State of Virginia, Ohio County. I Thomas G Yates a Justice of the Peace for the said County do certify that Oliver Reed and William Moore whose names ar signed to the writing above bearing date on the 23rd day of March 1863 have acknowledged the same before me on my county. Given under my hand this 23rd day of March 1863.

This Deed made this 14th day of March 1864 between William Moore of Ohio County State of West Virginia party of the first part and Oliver Reed of the same place party of the second part, Witnesseth that whereas the said Oliver Reed by deed of trust dated the 23rd day of March 1863 conveyed to the said William Moore the tract of land therein named containing fifty four acres three roods and three perches situate in said County in trust to secure the payment of six hundred and twenty six dollars and fifty five cents with interest from the first day of April 1862 due to James Wilson Reed Elijah Moore Elizabeth Murray Margaret Fisher William Breckenridge and James K Breckenridge and which deed of trust to said Moore as trustee is recorded in the Recorders office of said County, And whereas the said debt is fully paid and satisfied, Now the said William Moore in consideration of the premises and of one dollar to him paid by the said Oliver Reed has and by these presents does with special warrant grant and release to said Oliver Reed said tract of land and which is bounded as follows to wit, beginning at a White Oak in Edward Blaneys line thence S 70 1/4 West 56 4/14 poles toa post on Thomas Moores Line thence 42 degrees West seventy two 9/10 poles to a white oak stump thence N 68 1/4 W 33 8/10 to poles to a post formerly a sugar tree thence N 57 E 78 poles to a Beech thence S 76 1/2 E 67 3/10 poles to a post in Edward Blaney's line and thence S 2 E 73 3/10 poles to the beginning, containing as is before stated fifty four acres three roods and three poles and being the same land mentioned in the recited to this deed to have and to hold said tract of land to said Oliver Reed his heirs and assigns. This Deed made the 14th day of March in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight hundred and sixty four between Oliver Reed and Eliza Jane Reed his wife of Ohio County in the State of West Virginia parties of the first part and Edward Blaney of the same place party of the second part, Witnesseth that in consideration of the sum of two thousand dollars bankable money the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged the said parties of the first part do grant unto the said party of the second part the following described property that is to say the tract of land situate in said county in the waters of Castlemans Run and on which said granters now live and which tract of land is bounded as follows, to wit, Beginning at a White Oak in Edward Blaneys line thence S 70 1/4 West 56 8/10 poles to a post in Thomas Moore's line thence 42 degrees West 72 7/10 poles to a White oak stump thence North 68 1/4 degrees West 33 6/10 poles to a post formerly a Sugar tree thence North 57 degrees East 78 poles to a Beech thence South seventy six and a half degrees East sixty seven and three tenths poles to a post in Edward Blaneys line thence south two degrees East 73 7/10 poles to the beginning, containing fifty four acres and three fourth of an acre together with the appurtenances and privileges thereunto belonging unto the said Edward Blaney his heirs and assigns forever being the same tract of land conveyed to James Reed grandfather of said Oliver Reed from John H Wheeler and wife dated the 4th day of May 1812 and recorded in said county and the said parties of the first part do hereby covenant with the said party of the second part that they will warrant generally the property hereby conveyed.

West Virginia. Be it Remembered that on the 15th day of March 1864 the foregoing deed dated March 14th 1864 was presented to me A. G. Robinson Recorder of Ohio County in my office acknowledged by Oliver Reed and Eliza Jane Reed his wife parties thereto, the said Eliza Jane Reed being examined by me at the same time and privately and apart from her husband and having the deed aforesaid fully explained to her, she the said Eliza Jane Reed acknowledged the said deed to be her act and deed and that she had willingly executed the same and does not wish to retract it.
