This Indenture made this fourth day of February 1822 between Moses Shepherd and Lydia his wife of Ohio County State of Virginia of the one part and John Reed of the Said County and State of the other part, witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars to the said Moses Shepherd in hand paid by the said John Reed at or before the delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof they do hereby acknowledge and for other good causes and considerations them thereunto moving, have granted bargained aliened and confirmed, and by these presents doth grant bargain sell and alien and confirm unto the said John Reed and his heirs a certain tract division of parcel of land, containing one hundred acres situate in the County of Ohio and State of Virginia, being part of a tract of land granted to the said Moses Shepherd by patent bearing date the 26th day of August 1803, situate in the County of Ohio and State of Virginia, the courses including the said 100 acres of land or bargained premises and as followeth, to wit, Beginning at a Maple on Thomas Burkamons line thence West 155 poles to a poplar and beech thence South 92 poles to a poplar and White Walnut on Daniel Winters line and with the same South 66 east 92 poles to a white oak, thence North 57 East 94 poles to a dogwood, thence North 75 poles to the place of beginning, containing 100 acres be the same more or less, together with all tenement hereditaments and appurtenances hereby intended to be bargained and sols, free and clear of all encumbrances whatsoever,to the said John Reed his heirs and assigns to the only proper use and behoof of the said John Reed and his heirs and assigns forever, and the said Moses Shepherd and Lydia his wife for themselves and their heirs the tenements hereditaments and appurtenances aforesaid to the said John Reed his heirs and assigns against them the said Moses Shepherd and Lydia his wife and their heirs and against all manner of person or persons whatsoever claiming or to claim said premises shall warrant and forever defend by these presents. In witness whereof we the said Moses Shepherd and Lydia his wife have hereunto set their hands and affixed their seals the day and year first above written. Moses Shepherd. Lydia Shepherd.

I do certify that the above is a true copy of the original, which was acknowledged in the office by Moses Shepherd the 7th of February 1822 and at March Term 1822 was acknowledged in court by Lydia Shepherd who after having been privately examined apart from her husband declared that she willingly signed sealed and delivered the same and wished not to retract it which was ordered to be recorded(?). Ohio Co VA Deeds 32-208, dated 16 Dec 1848:
This Indenture made and executed this sixteenth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty eight by and between John McMurray and Isabella his wife of the County of Ohio and State of Virginia of the first part and John Reed of the same County and State, Witnesseth that the said John and Isabella McMurray for and in consideration of two hundred and Dollars lawful money of the United States to them in hand paid by the said John Reed at or before the ensealing and delivery hereof, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have granted bargained and sold, and by these presents do grant, bargain, sell, and convey unto the said John Reed a certain tract of land (excluding therefrom a burying ground or graveyard of two perches square with the right of egress to and from the same) situated on the waters of Castlemans Run in the County and State aforesaid containing twenty five acres and bounded as follows (viz) beginning at a stone in the state line thence with the same South three fourths degree East thirty seven and eight tenth poles to a Stone thence by land of James McCamnion South fifty seven degrees and one half West sixty seven and two tenth poles to a stone and North thirty four degrees West fifty poles to a stone, thence by land of the said John McMurray North fifty six degrees east seventy seven and five tenth poles to a stone thence by land of James McCammion South three fourths of a degree East poles to a stone and south eighty two degrees east twenty poles to the beginning, which survey was made with a two pole chain that was one inch too long, with its appurtenances to Have and to hold the described tract of land with its appurtenances except as aforesaid to him the said John Reed and his heirs and assigns forever, And the said John and Isabella McMurray for themselves and their heirs do hereby covenant to and with the said John Reed and his heirs and assigns that they will warrant and forever defend this said described tract of land with its appurtenances unto the said John Reed and his heirs and assigns against all lawful claims whatsoever. In Testimony whereof they the said John and Isabella McMurray have hereunto set their hands and affixed their seals the day and year first before written. John McMurray. Isabella (X) McMurray.
Ohio County SS. We John Gilmore and Andrew Yates Justices of the peace in the County of Ohio do hereby certify that John McMurray party to the deed bearing date on the sixteenth day of December 1848 and hereto annexed personally appeared before us in our County aforesaid and acknowledged same to be his act and deed and desired us to certify the said acknowledgement to the clerk off the County Court of Ohio in order that the said deed may be recorded. Ohio County SS. We John Gilmore and Andrew Yates Justices of the Peace in the County aforesaid in the state of Virginia do hereby certify that Isabella McMurray wife of John McMurray parties to a certain deed bearing date the sixteenth day of December 1848 and hereto annexed personally appeared before us in the County aforesaid and being examined before us in our County aforesaid privately and apart from her said husband and having the deed aforesaid fully explained to her, the said Isabella McMurray acknowledges the same to be her act and deed and declares that she had willingly signed sealed and delivered the same and that she wished not to retract it.
