This Indenture made this 6th day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty eight by James P McCoy of Ohio County Virginia of the one part and William Reed of County and State aforesaid of the other part, Witnesseth that the said James McCoy for and in consideration of the sum of two thousand dollars hath granted, bargained, sold, conveyed, and confirmed unto the said William Reed his heirs and assigns a certain piece or parcel of land situate on the waters of Middle Wheeling Creek of Ohio County Virginia and joining land of the heirs of William Todd William Smith, Moses Bud, Joseph Henderson and Joseph Tervell and bounded as follows viz, Beginning at a small red oak in Todd's line and running with his line north three fourths degrees west one hundred and fifty poles to a hickory and dogwood thence north seventy one degrees west fifty poles to a white oak on the line of John Porter thence North eighty two degrees west eighty poles to a post in Buls line corner of Henderson's thence with his line North two degrees east one hundred and twenty seven poles to a post and white oak near a sun(?) thence South eighty degrees east forty eight poles to a stone and white oak corner to Joseph Ferrell thence south sixty eight degrees east ninety four poles to the place of beginning, containing one hundred acres be the same more or less, To have and to hold to the said William Reed his heirs and assigns forever all the above described piece or parcel of land with its appurtenances and the said James P McCoy hereby doth warrant and defend and the said William Reed his heirs executors and administrators and assigns the above mentioned tract of land against himself and all other persons whatsoever claiming or to claim the same. Ohio County to wit. We Andrew Yates and John Gilmore Justices of the peace for the County aforesaid and State of Virginia do hereby certify that James P McCoy a party to a certain deed bearing date July the 6th 1848 and hereto annexed personally appeared before us in our County aforesaid and acknowledged the same as his act and deed and desired us to certify the said acknowledgement to the Clerk of the County Court of Ohio County in order that the said deed may be recorded. This Indenture made this eleventh day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and nine between William Reed and Mary Ann his wife of Ohio County and State of Virginia of the first part and William Davis of Washington County and State of Pennsylvania of the second part, Witnesseth that the said party of the first for and in consideration of the sum of two thousand hundred and four dollars to them in hand paid at or before ensealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain sell and convey unto the said party of the second part a certain tract or parcel of land situate on the waters of middle wheeling creek in the County of Ohio and State of Virginia and bounded as follows viz, Beginning at a White Oak stump in James Todds line and running with his line north one and three fourth degrees East one hundred and fifty seven poles to a dogwood thence north nineteen degrees west fifty and nine tenth poles to a white oak in the line of John Porter thence north eighty degrees west sixty one and one tenth poles to a stake in Bells(?) line corner to John Paisson thence with Paisson line south one half degree east one hundred thirty one poles and twelve links to a white oak thence south five degrees east forty seven and six tenth poles to a white oak and stone corner to Joseph Faris thence south sixty five degrees east ninety five and four tenth poles to the place of beginning containing one hundred and eight and one half acres, To have and to hold all the above described tract of land together with all and singular the appurtenances and hereditaments thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining to have and to hold the said tract of land to the only proper use and behoof of him the said party of the second part and his heirs forever and all the above described tract of land and its appurtenances and hereditaments thereunto belonging the party of the first part for themselves their heirs executors administrators and assigns doth warrant and forever defend to the said party of the second part his heirs executors administrators and assigns the above mentioned tract of land against themselves their heirs and assigns and all other persons whomsoever claiming or to claim the same or any part thereof. In witness whereof the parties of the first part have hereunto set their hands and affixed their seals the day and year above written. William Reed. Mary Ann (X) Reed.
Ohio County to wit, We John Gilmore and Andrew Yates Justices of the peace in the County of Ohio and State of Virginia do hereby certify that William Reed a party to a certain deed bearing date on the eleventh day of September 1849 and hereto annexed personally appeared before us in our County aforesaid and acknowledged the same to be his act and deed and desired us to certify the said acknowledgement in order that the said deed may be recorded. This Deed made this eighth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty between William Reed of the County of Ohio and State of Virginia party of the first part and Elizabeth J Murray of the County and State aforesaid of the second part, Witnesseth that in consideration of the sum of one dollar to be paid to the said part of the first part, the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, doth grant unto the said second party and to her heirs executors and administrators and assigns forever all that lot or piece of land now owned by the said first party situated in the County of Ohio and State of Virginia and bounded as follows, viz, Beginning at a White Oak corner to William and Elijah Moore thence South sixty nine and one half degrees west forty two and nine tenth rots to a stone corner to William and Elijah Moore and William Reed, thence north twelve degrees east eight rods to a stone corner to William Reed, thence north seventy nine and one fourth degrees east thirty nine and one half rods to the place of beginning, containing one hundred and forty four perches, To have and to hold the above described premises to the said Elizabeth J Murray and her heirs and assigns forever in fee simple with full covenants. Witness the following signatures and seals. Wm Reed. Martha (X) Reed.
Virginia Ohio County, to wit, We John Faris and W B Curtis, Justices of the peace in and for the said County of Ohio aforesaid do certify that William Reed and Martha his wife, whose names are signed as parties to the foregoing or annexed deed dated the 8 day of February, 1860, has acknowledged the same before us this day in our said County. The said Martha Reed being by us, at the same time and place privately examined separate and apart from her said husband, and having said deed fully explained to her by us, she the said Martha, wife of said William Reed, acknowledged the same to be her act and declared that she had willingly executed the same and that she wished not to retract it.
