This Indenture made this third day of December in the year of our Lord one
thousand eight hundred and thirty six between David Reed and Catherine his
wife of the County of Ohio and State of Virginia of the first part and James
Reed of the County and State aforesaid of the second part, Witnesseth that the
said parties of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of one
thousand dollars to them in hand paid at or before the ensealing and delivery
of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have granted
bargained and sold, and do by these presents grant bargain sell and convey
unto the said party o the second part his heirs and assigns forever a tract of
land lying in the County of Ohio and State of Virginia and situate on the head
waters of Castlemans Run and adjoining the land of Thomas Moore, John Tedford
Robert Humphreys and others, and bounded as followeth, to wit, Beginning at a
red oak, corner to John Tedford, and with his line North thirty eight degrees
East eighty perches to a post, thence South seventy one and one half degrees
East seventeen perches to a bush, corner to Robert Humphreys and with his line
North twenty seven and three fourth degrees east seventy seven perches to a
large white oak corner to the land of David Reed, and with his line North
sixty six and three fourth degrees west one hundred and fifty nine and two
tenths perches to a post in Edward Blaney's line and with the same South fifty
six degrees west eighty seven and five tenth perches to a stone, thence South
sixty three degrees East one hundred and eighty three perches to the
beginning, Containing ninety one acres one quarter and thirty six perches,
together with all and singular the tenements hereditaments and appurtenances
to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining, to have and to hold the
said ninety one acres and one quarter and thirty six perches, together with
all the tenements hereditaments and appurtenances to the same belonging or in
any wise appertaining, to the said party of the second part and his heirs and
assigns forever to the only proper use and behoof of him the said party of the
second part his heirs and assigns forever, and the said party of the first
part, for themselves and their heirs, do covenant promise and agree, to and
with the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns that they the
said party of the first part in and to the said ninety one acres one quarter
and thirty six perches aforesaid are seized possessed of and entitled to a
good sure perfect and indefeasable state of inheritance in fee simple, and
that they have good right and lawful authority to sell convey and assign the
same to the said party of the second part, and his heirs and assigns forever,
and further that they the said party of the first part the said ninety one
acres one quarter and thirty six perches aforesaid together with the tenements
hereditaments and appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise
appertaining unto the said party of the second part and his heirs and assigns
forever, free from the claim or claim of all person whatsoever, claiming or to
claim the said ninety one acres one quarter and thirty six perches, shall and

the County aforesaid in the State of Virginia, do hereby certify that David
Reed a party to a certain deed having date on the third day of December 1836,
and hereto annexed, personally appeared before us in our County aforesaid, and
acknowledge the same to be his act and deed, and desired us to certify the
said acknowledgement to the Clerk of the Court of Ohio County in order that
the same deed may be recorded. Given under our hands and seals this 3rd day

Reed the wife of David Reed, parties to a certain deed bearing date on the

her husband, and having the deed aforesaid fully explained to her, she the
said Catherine Reed, acknowledged the same to be her act and deed, and
declared that she had willfully signed sealed and delivered the same, and that

party of the first part, for and in consideration of the sum of seventeen
hundred dollars to them in hand paid at and before the ensealing and delivery
of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath granted
bargained and sold and do by these presents grant bargain sell and convey unto
the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns forever a tract or
parcel of land lying in the County of Ohio and State of Virginia and situate
on the head waters of Castlemans run and adjoining the lands of Edward Blayney
Charles Blayney and Hanson Murray and bounded as follows, to wit, beginning at
a large white oak corner to other lands of James Reed thence North seven and
three fourth degrees East one hundred and forty five and five tenth perches to
a stone corner to Murray thence North sixty degrees west thirty perches to a
white walnut corner to Edward Blaney thence South fifty six degrees West one
hundred and sixty perches to a post thence South sixty six and three fourth
degrees East one hundred and fifty nine and two tenth perches to the
beginning, Containing eighty two acres one half and thirty eight perches,
together with all and singular the tenements hereditaments and appurtenances
to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining to have and to hold the said
Eighty three acres and one half and thirty eight perches together with all the
tenements hereditaments and appurtenances to the same belonging or in any wise
appertaining to the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns

Catharine Reed acknowledged the same to be her act and deed and declared that
