eldest son of Charles Murray [Ref: Beers WashingtonCoPA p200]

Aug 14 1862: enlisted in Company D, Twelfth West Virginia Infantry; sent to Shenandoah Valleyu with his regiment, where they fought in Sheridan's campaigns. Fought in the principal engagements, and were sent to the front at Richmond, where they remained until the close of the War [Ref: Beers WashingtonCoPA p200]

1871: formed a partnership with his brother, John, and ran a general store in West Alexander [Ref: Beers WashingtonCoPA p200]

1879: another brother, O E Murray, entered the firm; soon afterward sold interest to Mr Valentine [Ref: Beers WashingtonCoPA p200]
