Richer is the only chronicler who gives the name of the father of Robert
the Strong, i.e. Witichin, a German. There is ample evidence that Robert
and his brother Eudes were the maternal nephews of Count Eudes of Orleans
and his brother William the Constable, Count of Blois[Ref: Moriarty
Plantagenet p215]
called son of Witichin (Guiguin) of Soissons in French sources [Ref: Todd

Robert being son of Robert, count in Wormsgau, first proposed by Glockner;
this scenario has been widely followed by others since that time [Ref: HenryII

well-known as the earliest solidly documented ancestor of the "Robertinian" or
"Capetian" dynasty of kings of France [Ref: HenryII rober100 9/20/2015]
822: Count of Paris [Ref: Moncreiffe RoyalAnc p69]
836x7: first appears in the records as Robert, son of count Robert, when
he donated two manses in Mettenheim in Wormsgau with appurtenances to the
monastery of Lorsch [Ref: HenryII rober100 9/20/2015]
10 Apr 837: as count Robert, witnessed the donation of a certain Badagis

The marriage of Robert the Strong to Adelais dau. of Hugo count of Tours is
much disputed. Settipani *La prehistoire des Capetiens 481-987: Premiere
Partie* p.400 n.13 reviews the litertaure on this subject. His own tentative
solution is to make his wife Emma a dau. of Adelais and Konrad of Auxerre (to
whom Adelais was certainly married). He notes that the argument for his own
solution will be forthcoming in the second part of his work. The negative
thesis that Adelais was not Robert's wife is strong. That the transmission of
the name 'Hugo' to the Capetian clan is from the Etichonid Hugo of Tours is
also probable (or stronger). [Ref: Richard Borthwick SGM 7/13/1998]
852: Count of Tours [Ref: Settipani Chateaudun p249]
3 Apr 852: Lay-abbot of Marmoutier [Ref: HenryII rober100 9/20/2015]
Nov 853: appears as a missus in the Capitulary of Servais; since missi were
usually counts over one of the districts involved, Robert was probably already
count of Anjou at this time [Ref: HenryII rober100 9/20/2015]
853?-865: Count of Anjou [Ref: HenryII rober100 9/20/2015]
859: mentioned first among the leaders of the revolt against king Charles; he
was allie with Pepin II of Aquitaine and the Bretons; Robert was received back
in the king's favor in 861. [Ref: HenryII rober100 9/20/2015]
c861-866: Marquis of Newstria [Ref: HenryII rober100 9/20/2015]

Blois with bishop Acard of Nantes [Ref: HenryII rober100 9/20/2015]
865: Count of Blois [Ref: HenryII rober100 9/20/2015]
865: king Charles gave the county of Anjou to his son Louis. To Robert he gave
the counties of Auxerre and Nevers [Ref: HenryII rober100 9/20/2015]
865-866: Count of Auxerre and Nevers [Ref: HenryII rober100 9/20/2015]
