Research Notes:
21 May 907: appears in an act of king Charles the Simple as countess with
Robert, and has been placed as either a wife (most natural interpretation) or
daughter of Robert. This is closely tied to the chronology of Beatrix, wife of
Robert I and mother of Hugues le Grand. Usual interpretation is that the act
of 26 Mar 931 indicates that Beatrix was still alive on that date; if that is
correct then Adele would be an earlier first wife and Beatrix as second, and
Hugues le Grand (known to be son of Beatrix) born in 908 at the earliest,
which goes against everything that is known about the chronology of Hugues le
Grand. If Beatrix were alive in 931, then she would have appeared in the 931
act as regina, not merely as domna; it therefore seems likely that she was no
longer living in 931. In this case there would be no obstacle to placing her
death before 907, and making Adele a later rather than an earlier wife. [Ref:

Vajay has suggested that she was daughter of Louis the German. This appears to
have been based solely on the name Emma (Louis's wife, Robert's daughter), and
thus doesn't carry much weight. Most reliable sources leave her parentage
unassigned. [Ref: Todd Farmerie SGM 5/7/1998]
