founded the abbey of Vilich, in Avalgau [Ref: HenryII megin000 4/15/2007]

The wife of Count Magingoz of the Avalgou is often stated to have been a daughter of Gonzalo Count in the Ardernes, of that House of the Wigerios but this is not accepted by Prof. Brandenburg and chronology would seem not to support it. It has been, however, accepted by Prof. Winkhaus, who later in his corrections rejects it. [Ref: Moriarty Plantagenet p24]

the Avelgau rights were held by the Eberhardiner branch of the Konradiner and Meingaud would have either through a cognatic or agnatic attachment to the Eberhardiner. His wife Gerberge's ascendants seem to rule out cognatic connection. His name occurs in the Eberhardiner (e.g. Eberhard (II)'s grandson Meingaud son of Konrad). So the connection would appear to be agnatic and the inference is that Meingaud of Avelgau was son of Eberhard (II) and brother of Eberhard (III). [Ref: Richard Borthwick SGM 9/19/1998]
