Eadweards nickname of "the Elder" is not contemporary, but was assigned later to distinguish him from the two other Anglo-Saxon kings of that name [Ref: HenryII edwar001 12/27/2010]

Eadweard's date of death is given as 17 Jul by the Liber Vitae of Hyde, and by a fragment of an English calendar of the beginning of the twelfth century from St Evroul. As for the year, arguments have been given in favor of both 924 and 925... There are enough charters to clearly indicate that Aethelstan had become king before 17 Jul 925... we can safely date his death on 17 Jul 924. [Ref: HenryII edwar001 12/27/2010]
