Itta came from a family which had lands around Nivelles and the Carbonarian forest (Charbonniere) [Gerberding, the Rise of the Carolingians and the LHF p121]. [Ref: exet0133 SGM 1/28/1996]

After her husband's death, she founded the monastery of Nivelles (near Liege in Belgium) with the help of St.Amand, and later that of Fosses nearby for St.Foilan. She is also called St.Ida of Nivelles (not to be confused with St.Ida of Herzfeld, who has been seen by some as a Carolingian). [Ref: exet0133 SGM 1/28/1996]
