1147: started the disputes with Roger de Mowbray with regard to the tenures of Robert de Stuteville I which Henry I had given to Nigel d'Aubigny, and they were then claiming the land in the territory of Coxwold which Roger had given to the Byland abbey [Ref: Farrer EYC v9p5, Keats-Rohan DD p724]

Long Lawford and Newbold were held at the Domesday survey by Geoffrey de Wirce, and were afterwards given to Nigel d'Aubigny, form whom they were inherited by Roger de Mowbray. There is evidence that Robert de Stuteville enfeoffed John his younger brother of land in Long Lawford, and it can be deduced that these lands in Warwickshire held by the Stutevilles and their descendants of the honour of Mowbray formed part of the 10 knights' fees granted to Robert de Stuteville III by Roger de Mowbray, as an initial settlement of the disputes between them [Ref: Farrer EYC v9p23]
