Though the expedition (to Carrickfergus) ended in failure and his own
death, he gained several victories over the English, notably against the
Earl of Ulster at Conyers, 10 Sep 1315, over Roger Mortimer (afterwards
Earl of March) at Kildare, 6 Dec of the same year, and over Edmund Butler
the Justiciar, at Ardskull, co Kildare, 20 Jan 1315/6 [Ref: CP III p57 (with
