after the assassination, he and his colleagues retired without interruption, and repaired to a castle at Knaresborough, which belonged to Hugh de Moreville, where they stayed many months, not daring to return to Henry's court [Ref: Foss Judges p462]

1158: lands of the Barony of Knaresborough passed to Hugh from the Sheriff of Yorkshire, who farmed them until 1173 [Ref: Sanders Baronies p59]

1170: forester for Cumberland, and itinerant justice for Cumberland and Northumberland [Ref: DNB v39p168]

murderers of Thoma sBecket fled to Knaresborough, which at that time was controlled by Hugh [Ref: Sanders Baronies p59(4)]

1194: may have been the Morville who was Richard I's hostage, in which case he would be noteworthy as having lent Ulrich of Zatzikoven the Anglo-Norman poem which Ulrich made the basis of his "Lanzelet" [Ref: DNB v39p169]

Tradition states that he died in the Holy Land, and was buried in the porch outside the church of the Templars (afterwards the Mosque el Aksa) at Jerusalem. The tomb is now inside the building [Ref: DNB v39p169]
