Research Notes:
not to be confused with Sibyl de Valognes of an earlier generation, who
was the wife successively of Robert de Ros, William de Percy and Ralph
d'Aubigny [Ref: Farrer EYC v9p16(2)]
as widow of Robert de Stuteville, gave the church of Torpenhow to
Rosedale priory, which was confirmed by her son Eustace [Ref: Farrer EYC
v9p17]
1214: demanded against Nicholas de Stuteville (her father-in-law) a third of
the honour of Liddel, Cumberland, a third of the honour of Rosedale, and a
third of the vills of Middleton, Cropton, Cottingham, Buttercrambe,
Scrayingham, Kirkby, co York, Marton, Westmorland, and of Brinklow, co
Warwick, as her dower of which Robert formerly her husband had endowed her by
the consent and will of the said Nicholas, Robert's father; Nicholas produced
the king's letters of protection for being quit of all pleas as long as his
son was in Poitou on the king's service [Ref: Farrer EYC v9p17]
on her death, the manor of Torpenhow, held in chief, was committed to hte
bishop of Carlisle, and subsequently to Roger de Quincy, who had Eustace
de Stuteville, her son and heir, in his wardship [Ref: Farrer EYC v9p17]
