of Appleby and Brough under Stainmoor, Westmorland, Temple Wycombe (in High Wycombe), Buckinghamshire, Prescote, Oxfordshire, etc, and in right of his wife, of Eyworth, Bedfordshire, Buckland, Buckinghamshire, and Essendine, Rutland [Ref: Richardson RoyalAnc v2p238]

Lord of Appleby, Westmoreland. Sheriff of Caen in Normandy, and of many English counties, and for 24 years Sheriff of Westmoreland [Ref: Watney WALLOP #1011]

1203-4: custody of Appleby and Brough, co Westmorland, was granted for the service of 4 knights fees. [Ref: Sanders Baronies p103]

9 John (1208): had the ustody of the bishopric of Durham [Ref: Foss Judges p694]

12 to 17 John (1211-16): sheriff of Devonshire [Ref: Foss Judges p694]

entrusted with the education and custody of the King's son, Richard, afterwards Earl of Cornwall [Ref: Foss Judges p694, Watney WALLOP #1011]

had the custody of the castles of Windsor, Bowes, Salisbury, and Carlisle [Ref: Watney WALLOP #1011]

1214: opposed the grant of the barony of Tickhill to Ralph de Lusignan; Robert claimed thehonour by right of his wife Idonea. In 1217 Robert was ordered to surrender the estate. In 1219 the tenants were commanded to receive Alice, Countess of Eu, as their overlord. Robert resisted this grant, and a lawsuit went before the courts from 1220 until 1222 when Alice was declared true tenant [Ref: Sanders Baronies p147]

1224: answered for 1 1/2 knights' fees of Old Wardon [Ref: Sanders Baronies p133(6)]
