M. Vannerus and also P. Volk consider that there were two Giselberts father and son and the younger was the father of the children usually ascribed to the first Giselbert because of the difficulty otherwise arranging the extant charter evicence. Vannerus and Runn both agree from certain indications that the wife of Giselbert was a member of the Ezzoner Pfalzgrafs of Lorraine, and the appearance of the Ezzoner name of Herman among the children of Giselbert as well as certain of the family holdings tends to confirm that view.
