1018-24: dispute over his marriage to Irmingard; Emperor Heinrich II
attempted to destroy Otto's power by having his marriage annulled on
grounds of proscribed consanguinity. This is the most extensive source of
Konradiner genealogical affiliations; two almost identical eleventh-century
exemplars exist. It is divided into two roughly equivalent parts, the second
of which details the 3:4 consanguinity that existed between Otto and his wife
Irmengard, and the first half contains copious genealogical information, the
meaning of which is perplexing [Ref: Jackman Konradiner p15]
1018-24: details of their consanguinjity is consigned in a note of the
council of Selingenstadt, joined together for the occasion, in particular
preserved in a manuscript of Saint-Omer: "Gebehard and Udo were nepotes,
sons of two brothers. Gebehard generated Cuno. Udo generated Otto. Cuno
generated Cuno. Heribert generated Otto. On another side, Godofrid and
Gerberga were cousin and cousin. Godofrid generated Irmingardis. Gerberga
generated Imiza. Imiza generated Otto." The second paragraph is perfectly
clear: it clarifies the relation between Otto and Ermengardis his wife.
It is not the same for the first [Ref: Settipani Conradiens p137]
1019: Count in Engersgau [Ref: ES I.1 #8]
