1749: left home in Switzerland; spent several months traveling through Germany, down the Rhine, to Rotterdam [Ref: Bennett VOGT p15]

immigrated on the ship Royal Union, Clement Nicholson, Commander, from Rotterdam, last from Portsmouth in England. Arrived in Philadelphia on Wednesday, Aug 15 1750. [Ref: Bennett VOGT p15, VogtJW VOGT p1]

1775: appears on Buffalo Valley tax list, 20 acres, 2 horses, 3 cows, and 4 sheep [Ref: Linn BuffaloValley p69]

will dated 29 Jan 1789, proved 7 Aug 1790, of Buffalo Twp, mentions children Barbara, Eva, Anna, Elizabeth, and son Michael (who had a son named Jonas) [Ref: Fisher SnyderCoPA p42]

1793: Benjamin Herr of Northumberland Co, PA, appeared with a power of attorney, dated Sunbury, Jul 4, 1791, and claimed an inheritance of #352.17 for the five children. The release, however, was refused for three reasons. His name was not found in MP so that he 'seemed' to have emigrated without consent. His children had never been subjects of Basel. Know all men by these presents that I Joseph Simpson of Paxton Township Lancaster County and Province of Pennsylvania For and in Consideration of the sum of forty pounds Lawful money aforesaid to me in hand well and truly paid by Jonas Foughts of Berks County and province aforesaid at or before the Sealing and deliver hereof, The receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge, and for other good causes and valuable considerations, have bargained sold released assigned and confirmed and do by these presents grant, bargain, sell, release, assign, and confirm unto the said Jonas Foughts his heirs and assigns all my right title interest property claim and demand in and to a certain application in my own name by me or for me entered in the Proprietors Office the 3rd of April 1769 for taking up three hundred acres of land on the south side of the west branch of Susquehanna on the long run about three mile from the mouth of said river, and likewise all my right title interest claim and demand in and to an order of Survey No 2155 Issued for Surveying the same, Together with the appurtenances thereunto belonging unto the said Jonas Foughts his heirs and assigns, And to the only proper use and behoof of the said Jonas Foughts his heirs and assigns forever. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this 12th day of October 1771. Joseph Simpson.

Northumberland Co SS. Before me the Subscriber one of the Justices of the peace in and for said county, Personally appeared John Simpson one of the subscribing Evidences to the within instrument of Writing, Who being duly sworn according to law doth say that he saw Joseph Simpson sign seal as his act and deed deliver this Deed to Jonas Fought and that he at the request of the said Joseph Simpson signed his name as an Evidence to the Execution thereof. Witness my hand and Seal the 25th day of August 1774. Michael Troy.

Northumberland Co PA Deeds D-135, dated 25 Aug 1774:
Know all men by these presents, That I Jonas Foughts of Penns Township and County of Northumberland, for and in Consideration of the sum of five pounds lawfull money of the Province of Pennsylvania, to me in hand well and truly paid by George Overmier, of the Township and County aforesaid, at or before the Sealing and delivery hereof (the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge) and for other good causes and Valuable considerations have bargained sold released assigned and confirmed and by these presents do grant, bargain, sell, release, assign, and confirm unto the said George Overmier heirs Executors administrators and assigns all my right title interest property claim and demand of in and to a Certain Application by me or for me, entered in the proprietors land office for the Province aforesaid, and received in the same by the Secretary of the said office, on the third day of April 1769 for taking up three hundred acres of land on a limestone spring that empties into the north side of Penns Creek, about one mile from the mouth of said Spring, or run where it empties into Penns about fifteen miles from George Gabrails place. The Number of the order of Survey three hundred forty No 340, and likewise all my right, title, interest, property, claim and demand, of in and to a certain order issued or to be issued for surveying and locating to my use the said Quantity of three hundred acres of land and of and to the warrant and patent to be granted for the same. To have and to hold the said premises and every part thereof, surveyed, or to be Surveyed, and located in pursuance of the said application, or order, or meant mentioned and intended so to be, with all the appurtenances whatsoever thereunto belonging. To the only proper use and behoof of him the said George Overmire his heirs Executors Administrators and assigns forever, under and subject to the payment of the Consideration money and Quit rent due or to be come due to the honorable the proprietors of the said province for the same, and the charges of surveying and all other Charges taxes and assessments whatsoever, and the said Jonas Foughts for myself my heirs Executors and Administrators shall and will at all and any time or times hereafter upon the reasonable request costs and charges of him the said George Overmire heirs Executors Administrators and assigns, make do execute acknowledge and deliver or cause to be done, all and every such further and other conveyance and assunces(?) in the law for granting and conveying the said described tract of land and premises with all the appurtenances unto the said George Overmier, his heirs, Executors, Administrators, and assigns, forever as by his council learned in the law shall be advised devised or required. In Witness whereof the said Jonas Foughts have hereunto set my hand and Seal this twenty fifth day of August in the year of our lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy four. Jonas Fought.
