In the name of God, Amen
I John Stepleton being of full age and of sound mind and memory, of the County of Fairfield in State of Ohio, do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following, that is to say
First It is my Will that my funeral expenses and all my debts be fully paid -- including grave stones worth Twenty dollars or Upwards. Also I direct that a fair evaluation or appaisement be made according to law of all my property both real and personal. Also I direct that all my personal property be sold by my executor at public sale. Also that my real property be sold by my Executor either in whole or in parcels, by private or public sale as he may deem best, excepting that which I have herein bequeathed. And to effectuate this my intention, I do hereby vest in my Executor full power and authority to dispose of my reale state in fee simple, in as full and large a manner as I would do myself if living. Also I do direct that the net proceeds of my personal property, heretofore, ordered by me to be disposed of, be divided as hereinafter directed as soon as it can be done, amongst my heirs. Also that proceeds of my real estate, shall be divided in like manner, as soon as it shall come into the hands of my executors.
Second I give, devise and bequeath my son David, one twelveth of my estate in manner aforesaid which the exception of fifty dollars which said David has received.
Third I give and devise to my Son Jacob's children viz Anthony, Jeremiah, Mary, Lydia, Jacob, Sophiah, Legrand and George R (youngest son), one twelvethed of the proceeds of my estate, to be equally divided amongst them, it is further my Will that three hundred and seventy one dollars, given to my Son Jacob in his lifetime if not collectable, shall be deducted from the amount bequeathed to the aforenamed Children begotten by my Son Jacob.
Fourth I give and devise to the Children of my daughter Catherine Mowrey, deceased, one twelvethed of the proceeds of my estate with the exception of fifty dollars already paid to my daughter Catherine, to be equally divided amongst them.
Fifth I give and devise to my son Jesse one twelvethed part of the proceeds of my estate
Sixth I give and devise to my grandchildren of the body of my daughter, Sarah Crites (deceased) viz Mary, Rebecca, Ruben, and Sophia one twelvethed of the proceeds of my estate, to be equally divided amongst them.
Seventh I give and devise to the children and grandchild of my daughter Esther Kampps (deceased) viz Jacob, Catherine, John, Rebecca, Samuel, Jeremiah, and Adaline Tasnocht, daughter of Hannah Kampp deceased all that tract of land, containing one hundred and sixty acres in the County of Mercer, Union Township Ohio; described as quarter S.E. Section one, Township four, Range three valued at six hundred dollars, also so much of my estate as to make one twelvethed of my estate in addition to be equally divided amongst them.
Eighth I give and devise to Sophiah daughter of my son Jeremiah, the sum of three hundred dollars.
Ninth I give and devise to Sophiah Harpster one twelvethed of the proceeds of my estate deducting fifty dolalrs which amount was paid to her previously.
Tenth I give and devise to Magdalena Crites one twelvethed of the proceeds of my estate, deducting eighty dollars to her in hand paid.
Eleventh I give and devise to the children of my daughter, Mary Valentine viz John, George, Lydia, Jeremiah, Elizabeth, Solomon and Amos one twelvethed of the proceeds of my estate, deducting seventy five dollars.
Twelveth I give and devise to the Children of my daughter Rebecca Bechtol (deceased) one twelvethed of the proceeds of my estate viz Susannah, Samuel, and Jonathan.
Thirteenth I give and devise to my son Joseph, one twelvethed of the proceeds of my estate, deducting six hundred dollars, to him in hand paid. It is further my Will that my Executor provide suitable grave stones for the following heirs Jacob & wife & son, Esther Kampp and Rebecca Bechtol deceased to be severally deducted from their bequests. And I do hereby make and ordain my esteemed son-in-law Samuel Crites Executor of this my last will and testament; In witness whereof I John Stepleton the testator, have this my last will written on one sheet of paper, set my hand and seal this thirteenth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty nine.
