Research Notes:
early 1830's: moved to Allen Co, OH [Ref: Harter REICHELDERFER p118]

Jonathan was born in Pickaway County, OH, and came to Allen County early in the thirties [Ref: Burkhardt BOUCHER p150]

landholder in 1837 and the following year purchased land in Sec. 27, Shawnee Township. [Ref: Burkhardt BOUCHER p150]

1839 he built a log house, using the logs of an Indian hut that stood on the Benjamine Bowsher farm a mile away. The Indian hut is thought to have been built about 1817. The log house is yet standing in good state of preservation and is known as the oldest house in Allen County. The farm is is adjacent to the St. Matthews Lutheran Church. 1839: arrived in Shawnee Twp; built a two story cabin just west of the Quilna Trail, which ran through his farm land [Ref: Bowsher FirstHarpster]

1850: farmer in Monroe Twp, property value $1200 [Ref: Harter REICHELDERFER p118]

1850: farmer, located in Shawnee Twp, Allen Co, OH, value of real estate: 1400 [Ref: 1850 OH Allen Shawnee 10]

one of the first members and in June, 1852, he deeded a parcel of land to the church for the enlarging of the cemetery. In more recent years, Jonathan's son, Amos Harpster, deeded an additional tracct of this farm to the church. [Ref: Burkhardt BOUCHER p150]
