Publication Date: December 1920
John Thomas Bledsoe, passed away at his home in St. Elmo, IL, Friday Morning 8 o'clock December 10th,1920, age 74 yrs. 8 months, and 20 days.
He was born in Caldwell County, KY March 21st, 1846, and moved to Fayette County, IL in 1861.
He was first married to Julia Ann Harpster March 18th, 1868. To this union 8 children were born all of whom survive him, Mrs. Ella O'Dell of St. Louis, MO. Geo Wm Bledsoe, and Mrs. Emma Lenz of St. Elmo, IL, Mrs. Chas Swarm and Etta Pruit of Loogootee, IL, Mrs. Maude Brown of Mowequa, IL and Lucy Brown of Patoka, IL and Levi Brown of Johnson City, IL.
Julia Ann Bledsoe, his first wife departed this life January 10th,1901.
He was married a second time to Janettia Ray, of Brownstown, July 10th, 1910 who survives him and who so faithfully nursed him through his last illness and was so good and kind to him. His last words were "Janettia has been so good and kind to me".
He united with the Christian Church 51 years ago, his life has been an open book, he was very faithful to his Church. He was an agreeable, sociable and Generous neighbor and a faithful, earnest and devoted Christian.
Besides his faithful wife and 8 children he leaves 23 Grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends to remember his life of merit and_____ (article smudged here).
He was also a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, which lodge he cherished and loved dearly.
Funeral services were conducted in the Christian Church, at St. Elmo, IL (by Rev. R.R. Finlayson of Brownstown, IL).
Where his friends and neighbors assembled and packed the building to overflowing, bearing testimony to the high esteem in which he was held by those who knew him well.
His remains were laid to rest_____ (clipping ends here, but John T. Bledsoe is buried at the Old Loogootee Cemetery in Loogootee, Fayette Co. IL)
