Research Notes:
cousin of Siurwald, the Danish Ealdorman of Northumberland [Ref: Moriarty
Plantagenet p30]
John of Fordun's often unrelable history of Scotland (late fourteenth century)
state that the mother of Duncan's sons Malcolm and Donald was a "consanguinia"
(sic) of earl Siward. There is no earlier authority for the statement,
although it could be based on a misidentification of Edward's father Siward
(fl 1042x66, tribunus Merciorum, a different person than the Earl of
Northumberland). There does not appear to be any justification for attempt to
define a more specific relationship between Suthen and Siward [Ref: HenryII
suthe000 6/20/2010]
name of Suthen is known only from a interlined addition to a king list
contained in an early fourteenth century manuscript [Ref: HenryII suthe000
