Martin of Clermont is claimed as authority for the statement that this
earl's father was Gilchrist, also Earl of Angus, who is said to have
fought at the battle of the Standard in 1138. But in Aildred's account of
that conflict there is no mention of such an Earlk and he does not appear
in authentic record [Ref: SP I p160]
Aug 22 1138: was at battle of the Standard, when the Scots were totally
defeated at Northallerton, co York [Ref: CP I p145]
c1153: during the whole reign of David I (1124-1153), the Earls of the seven
Provinces of transmarine Scotland appear simply with the designation of
"Comes", without any territorial addition, with two exceptions which occur
towards the end of his reign. In the last year of David's reign, the Earl who
succeeded Gillemichel appears as Dunchad Comes de Fif, and along with him, for
the first time appears Gillebride, Comes de Angus [Ref: CP I p145(c)]
