Research Notes:
also known as Avice [Ref: White Gunnor p128]
received her mother's lands (town of Mers, in Le Vimeu, in dioceses of Amiens)
as her marriage portion [Ref: DNB v39p131]
In a charter dated ca. 1100, Stephen, Count of Aumale, with consent of his
wife Hawise, daughter of Ralph de Mortimer, granted a church to the priory of
Saint-Martin-des-Champs, Paris, which also mentions Ralph's deceased wife,
Melisande. [Ref: Paul Reed SGM 10/2/1998]
Hawise was (from another charter) clearly Melisande's daughter, but it is not
certain that Melisande was Hugh's mother. [Ref: Paul Reed SGM 10/2/1998]
