Henry, King of England, granted to the lords of Bolam in Northumberland 3 vills belonging to his manor of Corbridge, near Newcastle-upon-Tyne, in exchange for the manor of Coniscliffe in Durham, and thereafter gave Coniscliffe to 'the predecessor of William, baron of Greystoke' together with the hand of his (the king's) own ex-mistress, a lady of the famous northern house of Balliol [Ref: Washington HenryII p47]
