Research Notes:
...the earliest sources for the parentage of "Richlint" (if that was her name,
and if she even existed at all) are the Welf genealogies of the twelfth
century (see, e.g., "Genealogia Welforum", MGH SS 13:734; "Historia Welforum
Weingartensis", MGH SS 21: 460), and they refer to her (without a name in the
earlier "Genealogia Welforum") as a daughter of Otto the Great.
I do not recall any of the scholars in this dispute suggesting that we
should accept "Richlint" as a daughter of Otto the Great. To grossly
oversimplify a controversy which has generated entire books, the dispute here
is between those who reject the statement as late and unreliable (e.g.,
Hlawitschka) and those who attempt to discern an underlying truth to the
statements by interpreting the word "filia" as "granddaughter" in this
particular case (e.g., Wolf, Jackman). [Ref: Stewart Baldwin SGM

Zu dem Nachweis, dass Judith eine Schwester "Hertzog" Bertholds v.
Marchtal uns somit eine T Gf Adalberts v. Marchtal war, vlg. oben VI,76.
Die Belege fur Hz Konrad v. Schwaben sind bei Hlawitschka, Kuno S., 43f.,
und bei sems., Untersuchungen Kap. I (bei Anm. 151 ff.) [Ref: Glocker Otto
p314]
... The problem is Richlind. The charter in which she is mentioned is a proven
fabrication and that her mention in the GW an invention. Konrad of Swabia had
a proven wife, Judith. In the last article by Hlawitschka, he presents a very
clever and plausible reconstruction of Judith's ancestry. If he is correct
then she was indeed related to the emperor Otto I. According to the
reconstruction Judith would be Otto's 1st cousin twice removed. On her
mother's side she would be the great granddaughter of one of Otto's paternal
uncles (i.e. a brother of king Henry the Fowler). The point seems to be that
the GW etc in assigning an alleged daughter of Otto as the wife of Kuno von
Oehningen were indicating that Kuno's wife had blood ties with the royal
dynasty ('koenigsnahe') and in this these sources were correct. What was
mistaken was the name and precise relationship to the dynasty. [Ref: Richard
Borthwick SGM 1/24/1997]
... Richlindis, spouse of Conrad of Swabia... This person thus appears for the
first time, without her name, in Genealogia Welforum as a girl of the emperor
Otto (Ier). It is only one posterior interpolation of forty years which
specify us that it was called Richlindis. The problem comes on the one hand
from what no contemporary source delivers in an authentic way the name of the
wife of Conrad de Souabe and on the other hand of what Genealogia Welforum is
not only one late source, but a not very reliable source out of genealogical
matter. Its account concerning the family of Conrad de Souabe, who is even not
designated correctly but apparently hides under the name of Cuno d' Ohningen,
is a mixture of exact data, facts transformed and imaginations. The existence
of Richlindis thus positions in this doubtful economic situation and was the
subject of a rather virulent debate between the partisans of its historicity,
in particular A.Wolf, DJ and J.Fried and those of its invention, particularly
E.Hlawitschka and G.Althoff. DJ thus positions resolutely in the camp of
A.Wolf and brings, with its general revision of the genealogy of Conradiens, a
capital contribution in this thesis by drawing aside in this way the principal
impossibilities denounced precisely before by E.Hlawitschka. [Ref: Settipani
