briefly succeeded his father as King [Ref: Keats-Rohan DD p1101]

In 1016 he fought 6 battles, but through trechery he was completely overthrown at Assandun, in Essex. He and Canute the Dane agreed to divide the kingdom, but the heroic Edmund died, having reigned only seven months, and Canute became King of England without a rival. [Ref: Wurts MCBarons p177]
