They came from the Susquehanna and proceeded as far as Franklin in a canoe, his wife following along the bank upon horseback and driving two cows before her [Ref: Bates CrawfordCoPA p549]

Know all men by these presents that I William Reed of Mercer County Neshanock Township being weak of body but of sound and perfect memory and mind blessed be God for the same and considering the uncertainty of life and that it is appointed unto all men once to die, do make and ordain this my Last will and testament that is to say, Principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul unto the hands of Almighty God who gae it and my body to e buried in a decent and Christian like manner. As concerning my worldly estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this life, I give and sipose of the same in the following manner and form. First I give and bequeath to Jane my beloved wife the profits of the farm and the use of that part of the house I now occupy. Likewise her choise of the milk one cow and one two year old, five sheep her choise, five hogs her choise, one bed of basean and the half of the household and kitchen furniture the family bible the prayer book and confesion of faith all the grain I now have and my share of the grain in the ground likewise the loom and such things as belongs thereto.
I also give and bequeath to my daughter Jane Read one cow her bed and buicase saddle and such things as was formerly claimed by her.
And further more after my just debts physian bills funeral expenses are paid I dispose of the remainder of my property to be sold and with the land after wife death is to be divided equally among my eight children, viz. Robert Read, William Read, Rebecca Cummings, John Reed, Mary Ann Brandon, Isaac Read, Jane Reed and Elizabeth Orr, to be share and share alike and I likewise constitute make and ordain Thomas Cummings and Thomas Punsey the executors of this my will and testament and do hereby revoke and disanul all and every other will and testament and executors by me before named willca or bequeathen by me ratifying and confirming this my last will and testament. In witness thereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty fifth of January A.D. 1831.
Signed sealed, published and declared by the said William Reed to be his last will and testament in the presence of use who have hereto subscribed in the presence of the testator and of each other: Thomas Barber and Susanna Reed.
Mercer County This 2nd of Feb 1831 personally came before me Samuel Holtein Register for the probate of Wills &c in and for said county as Susanna Reed and Thomas Barber the subscribing witnesses to the within will and being duly sworn according to law did depose and say that they were present and saw William Reed the Testator sign seal publish pronounce and declare that this document of writing as and for his last will and testament and that at the time of so doing he was of perfect and sound mind memory and understanding to the best of their knowledge observations and belief. signed, Samuel Holstein, Registrar.
