Barony of Badlesmere was assumed by John de Vere, 7th Earl of Oxford, in right
of his wife, who (though she was not the eldest of the sisters and coheirs of
the last Lord) had succeeded to the Lordship of Badlesmere, Kent. The
succeeding Earls likewise assumed the style of Lords Badlesmere, and that,
