inherited Barony of Weobley from uncle [Ref: Sanders Baronies p95]

1133: held the Bayeux fees previously held by Roger de Lacy of Weobley [Ref: Keats-Rohan DD p536]

early in the reign of Stephen he reclaimed Roger's holdings in the honour of Weobley [Ref: Keats-Rohan DD p536]

1138-: in England, as a supporter of the Empress Matilda [Ref: Keats-Rohan DD p536]

the fact that he succeeded in regaining the vast majority of the Lacy estates suggests that Gilbert's right to them was greater than the Countess Cecily's, or in other words greater than that of Hugh I's female descendants. That would make him a son either of Roger de Lacy or of Hugh. Hugh had a nephew who became a Templar, and Gilbert became a Templar between 1157 and 1159 [Ref: Wightman LACY p185]

1148: succeeded in establishing his claim to Weobley against Roger of Gloucester, earl of Hereford [Ref: Keats-Rohan DD p536]

1157-8: appears in pipe roll [Ref: Sanders Baronies p95]

before 1160: became a Knight Templar; witnessed the treaty between Henry II and Louis VII in May 1160 [Ref: Keats-Rohan DD p536]

abt 1161: left for Jerusalem [Ref: Keats-Rohan DD p536]

1163: mentioned by William of Tyre on active service in outremer [Ref: Keats-Rohan DD p536]
