Research Notes:
said to be a neice of Malcolm IV, but since Malcolm was born in 1142 it is not likely that he had a neice that was marriageable in 1160 [Ref: CP V p373, CP V p373(a), SP IV p7]

abt 1160-62: named in a charter of King Malcolm IV as his kinswoman ('nepta') in granting to her and her husband, Earl Duncan, 'the lands of Strathmiglo, Falkland, Kettle, Rathillet in Fife, and of Strathbran in Perthshire.' [Ref: John Ravilious SGM 6/11/2007-142226]

possible that Ela might be the child of an illegitimate son or daughter born to Malcolm's father Earl Henry, in his youth, as he had at least one illegitimate child and may have had others [Ref: SP IV p7]
