1190s: then holding the fief of Sigar de Chocques, claimed also the honour of Gunfrid of Chokes alleging that Anselm had been 'annuculus patris meus', i.e. 'uncle of my father', a statement which cannot be accommodated within the well-established details of the genealogy of Bethune; that there was some relationship between them nonetheless cannot be doubted [Ref: Keats-Rohan DP p240]

received a grant of the Barony of Rothersthorpe; This was held by Gunfrid de Cioches at time of Domesday, who was succeeded by Anselm d.before 1161, succeeded by Robert d.c1186 [Ref: Sanders Baronies p141]

probably obtained the Barony of Rothersthorpe by grant, rather than hereditary right [Ref: Sanders Baronies p141(6)]

1207: claimed that the Anselm de Cioches of 1135 was the maternal uncle of his father. Adelaide of St Pol had a sister Egelina who married Anselm de Houdain, who had received 1/3 of the lordship of Chocques in 1120. If Anselm de Chocques was Anselm de Houdain, his normally unacceptable use of the word 'avunculus' will have been justified by the unusually complex succession to Chocques [Ref: Keats-Rohan DD p396]
