He is called the 8th son of Herbert II, Count of Vermandois, but is not so given by Pere Anselme; though Anselme does give Hugh, Archbishop of Rheims, as a son of Herbert II [Ref: Weis AR7 #151]

falsely attributed father: Heribert II, d.943, Count of Vermandois. This appears in the widely used Ancestral Roots, which also gives the false death date of 15 Mar 973 (AR7 #151). Origin of the blunder is unclear; however, the sister of Renaud's wife Alberada, Gerberga, was married to Heribert's son Adalbert. Perhaps a statement that Renaud and Adalbert were brothers-in-law was corrupted into a statement that they were brothers. [Ref: HenryII ragen000 4/24/2008]

sometimes identified as Ragenold, Norse leader who was active in France during the period 923-5. Chaume preferred to see the Viking Ragenold as the father of Renaud [Ref: HenryII ragen000 4/24/2008]
