Research Notes:
list of prisoners captured at the battle of Bouvines, Flanders, on 27 Jul
1214, includes Ralph Bigod, described as a brother of the earl of Salisbury
"Radulfus Bigot, frater comitis Salesbir[iensis]". The French compilers of
the prisoners list would probably have had a greater interest in Ralph Bigod's
connection to William, Earl of Salisbury, one of the commanders in this
battle, than to his father, who is not known to have participated. [Ref:
